Aerodrums
They're just a toy, and not a particular useful one at that.
1. A real drummer relies on resistance from the pads for feel, so the notion they could be used by professionals is utter nonsense.
2. With no pad, how on earth are you supposed to do flams/triplets etc.?
3. Um, we won't even get on to drop and catch etc.

+1. Further, as a general rule if its been introduced to the world via reality television its worthless, and reality TV is all Dragon's Den actually is.

2 of the Dragons were interested enough to make an offer, and they, the Dragons are no fools. I just saw it not so much as drums per se, but a new and exciting technology certainly as far as motion sensing technology is concerned. And for anyone just thinking of dabbling, having a go at drumming but not committed enough to go out and buy a drum kit, then it's a great idea. There is surely massive potential.
Of course there is the novelty aspect, but how many guitars are there under the bed or on top of the wardrobe doing nothing but collect dust? Some of us take to music more seriously, it becomes an all consuming passion, others of us ditch the music and get girlfriends or join the local bird spotting club etc etc
Ihave done some helping out at a local children's home for those with conditions such as autism, ADHD etc etc etc and I know some of the young lads, cocooned, brooding abouit in a lovely but locked down house, would love something like this. One of them I have worked with has really really come out of his shell after I gave him a cheapo boombox keyboard - and he's written some half decent music considering he's mentally deficient in some respects. Sometimes when looking at a new prodiuct, you don't look at the product in itself but the potential the technology offers.

I love unusual music tech toys. That being said DD is a highly scripted show and I have heard, though I can't confirm, that when it actually becomes time to sign the contracts that a fair number of the successful contestants walk away. So it's all for show and probably free advertising.
That being said - any toy, device or invention that brings fun and inspiration to making music is a good one!

Well that's the media anyway isn't it? It's all for show, we can only ever take things at face value and whatever follows from that an experience, however trivial or mundane. With any new tech there will be naysayers, and then those that are charmed by it till the next gizmo comes along. I had no intention of trying drums, but when these things appear on eBay for £49.99 I think I'll take a pop at one, and they do let you play straight into a DAW triggewring whatever drum sampler, whilst there is no feedback from actually hitting a drum, one of the inventors does describe a tecnique that emulates it.
And being able to at least learn some neat grooves with a little more expression than I get with ready rolled drum loops has to be worth a try, I would never go to the trouble and expense of buying a drum kit, my tiny studio doesn't have the room anyway. I have seen some drummers do some wonderful things on those tiny pads you get on some grooveboxes, but they were very good drummers anyway. I tried finger drumming and it was bobbins.
On the subject of free advertising. There was one young Chinese woman some years ago and she gave each of the Dragons a pot noodle - they asked her why and she replied "Well so many people say there's no such thing as a free lunch, but here you are, that's a free lunch!" She went on to charm them and got several offers but at the end of her pitch she rejected all of the offers, she had no intention of giving up part of her business saying she only came on the show for the free publicity, and it worked!

Re: Dragons Den Aerodrums
Neat bit of motion capture. But too many cockups.
Drumming on fresh air instead of a surface - of course that's not going to work. We can make that better by assuming it can put "virtual" drums on the desk in front of you though.
Where it goes wrong is their knowledge of the field. Being able to take a guess at the size of their potential market is essential. And there is a classic example of how this can be done at toy price but for serious use, which is the YouRock guitar. But they didn't reference that. Nor had they thought about integrating it with any of the existing music games (Guitar Hero or whatever) beyond "oh yeah, that might be possible".
It's a classic case of a neat idea looking for a professional approach to selling it. Not only did they have no clue about that, they didn't know how clueless they were, and the lead guy came across as an arrogant dick with his comments at the end. Getting two people with that level of experience onboard would be well worth 30%, but they just couldn't see it.

It's an out and out, unashamedly reality format dressed up to look more substantive. I've met one of the judges socially and discussed the ethos behind the show. They all enjoy making it but it has absolutely nothing to do with bona fide entrepreneurism whatsoever. If one must clutter the schedules with 'reality' content then its a harmless and reasonably inoffensive way of doing it, as well as being popular, which is always a great arbitrator of taste

I think its inspirational and it gives would be inventors a good insight into the possibilities and realities of trying to pitch an idea/product. I see it as completely positive and extremely useful in a country that has the eccentric inventor in its cultural DNA.
The alternative it to have some old geezer in a shed fronting a sort of hitech 'Out of Town' type format.
I love the show. Didn't much like those drums and in any cae i thought you could do this type of thing with a Wii or xBox thingy.
