UAD - Fender '55 Tweed Deluxe Plug-In

Post by Guest »

Hi Guys,

I have been demoing this a bit. I fully expected it to be as awful as the other UAD Guitar Amp stuff but have been a bit surprised, it actually sounds pretty good. Very good really.

Anyone else had a play with it?

Have you tried Amplitube Fender? I actually like that one quite a lot.

Haven't had a chance to try it yet - has anyone managed to get a good really clean tone out of it? That is where I think modelled amps struggle IMHO - it seems like there is always a bit crunch somewhere...

To be fair, clean is not really the forte of the Tweed Deluxe.

Although you asked specifically about the UAD amp sim (which I haven't tried), it might be worth giving the Scuffham amp sim a listen to too.
They do a demo version.

Not any more. Amps sims have come a long way.

I still struggle to get a really clean warm tone from the UA models. What would you use, for example, for a jazz tone? I have got reasonable results with the Chandler GT amp then boosting the signal with a compressor just to boost the signal rather than compress it.

Appreciate your thoughts (and sorry to hijack the thread)!

Amp Sims seem to be quite fussy about the signal you load into them sometimes. If you're looking for a jazzy tone, try rolling off the tone and volume on your guitar a little and make sure the input into the plugin is well below the red. Choose the amp that you'd choose 'in real life' and adjust it to taste. And take some time to find an ambience or reverb setting that gives you the warmth and clarity you're seeking.

Another thing I do from time to time is send the amp sim through a cabinet impulse in Logic Space Designer. This can sometimes add an extra layer or realism.
