Hi All,
Does anyone know where I can download free sound effects?
I need to add gunshots to a backing track for a drama sequence.
Thanks!

Re: Sound Effects Files??
I can't believe you didn't try googling "free sound effects"
- there are lots of place out there.
I've used google's first result for various things in the past, and I'm sure it will have something useful for your needs - but there are plenty of other places to try as well, if not...

My apologies. I did Google first, misunderstood the download, ended up with a pdf. But now it's sorted.

Freesound has a vast range of effects - some excellent, some not so...
Their search-engine is pretty good too...
Interestingly my next project will probably be to try and record some gunshots... no pheasant is safe around here at the moment!

I'd be interested to hear the results Mike. I suspect that they don't resemble what we are used to hearing - not 'Hollywood' enough ...
Veni, Vidi, Aesculi (I came, I saw, I conkered)

Here's a handy tip, then: use a dynamic mic, not a capacitor/condenser, and experiment with a little deliberate preamp overload and/or allow the limiter to act. A clean recording with a capacitor mic tends to be all transient and no body, but a dynamic mic inherently provides a useful transient-reduction, and allowing the preamp or limiter to thicken things out a bit gives a sound which has the more 'expected' gunshot character that we have come to know from film soundtracks etc.

No body? It all depends if the gun was loaded and pointed at someone.
Reliably fallible.
