Don't know if it supports Apple gear.

What really winds the price up is using TB3 protocol rather than Gen 2. I should have thought Apple kit would be fine as the OS has supported NVMe for a while now.

Can one boot from an external TB3 drive?

That would make the internal SDD less critical with time...

You can boot from an external USB drive. I've not tried with a TB drive but I've no reason to doubt you can.

Well there we have it, finally confirmed that these are not "officially" user upgradeable.

https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT205041

To upgrade the memory in your Mac mini (2018), go to an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider.

However....

That doesn't look too complicated.

Good news!

Wimp that I am that's definitely beyond my paygrade. Fortunately, should I ever get one of these, I have an Apple authorised repairer nearby who are not above installing Kingston RAM if asked to in this sort of situation so that's the route I'd take.

Thanks for the link.

These things are pretty easy to do with an iFixit guide and a little care and patience...

If you're not the "care and patience" type, then yes, get someone else to do it...

when I modified my 2012 Mini OWC had kits with tools supplied and step by step video tutorials.

Looks to be about the same level of complexity.

Lucky you CC, when I took my 2012 MBP for repair my local (ish) Apple approved repairer wouldn't even install the optical drive from my older (2011) MBP to replace the failed one in the new MBP (which I had removed, along with the spare) as they said they weren't allowed to do so and if Apple found out they would be in trouble :headbang: I just took it home with me and stuck it in myself........

Still mourning the loss of my 'Jedi Poster" status :)

People often mistake me for a grown-up because of my age.

And on the positive side we know where to go next time we're trying to decipher some tiny writing on a badly scanned instruction manual... ;)
