The Curse of the 'Mics Thru the Post' strikes again...

Post by Mike Stranks »

So just bought a matched pair of SDCs via EBay...

Winter weather, cold warehouses, we're out when postie calls so leaves in garage...

First one is fine; second one pops, fizzes and crackles. Dew-points, cold/warm, condensation etc etc etc.

So they're in the boiler cubby (very warm and snug) for 24+hours. Let's hope...

Seller confirms that they were tested and working before they left him... High score, 100% detailed description and good photos... I don't doubt his word...

A bit strange that one does and one doesn't when they've been through the same conditions. But wait and see. Though it may indicate one isn't all it should be.

My "Bastard BM-88" arrived through the post this morning, I haven't got around to plugging it in yet but I'm sure it won't be suffering from the same problems Mike.......

Still mourning the loss of my 'Jedi Poster" status :)

People often mistake me for a grown-up because of my age.

I think it will be condensation.

You should have got valve mics.
they are less prone to condensation and cold weather because they are warmer

IMO those last two comments were just dripping with condensation. ;)

Fingers-crossed....

40 hours-ish at a more or less constant temperature of 34 degs C and a dry atmosphere, coupled with an hour or so of phantom-power this morning seems to have done the trick...

I just had something similar as well, but I sent it back as it didn’t seem to settle within a couple of days.

Awaiting replacement today, but that’s been sitting in a cold warehouse for a few days as well...

Sadly the crossed-fingers came to nought.

The problem has reoccurred this afternoon so whatever it is a 'dry-out' hasn't fixed it.

Back to the seller for a refund...

A shame, Mike. :( I did think it strange that it didn't happen to both, assuming that they were packed the same way.

That is a shame. I had the same problem with a pair of brand new KM184s (both of them, so yes that was a bad sign for you) but the airing cupboard treatment worked fine for them.
