Hi, just wondered if anybody could help or advise.
I’ve been booked to play piano (digital) and sing at a wedding for the period after the meal but was asked if I could play during the meal too. There simply won’t be enough room in the room for me to play although a small pa speaker could be set up for an iPod etc for background music.
However, Out of interest, is there a product that allows a line output of a mixer to transmit a wireless signal to a receiver that I could plug into a pa speaker to be heard (but I’d not really seen due to being in another room about 15 metres away).
I know I’ll feel very disconnected from the audience but it would be just live background music. They seem very keen on hearing it being me.....!
Thanks in advance for any thoughts
Wireless/Bluetooth Transmitter/receiver PA solution possibilities?
Re: Wireless/Bluetooth Transmitter/receiver PA solution possibilities?
There are plug-in Bluetooth transmitters/receivers available, but they really need to be line-of-site to guarantee reception. Put solid walls in the way, especially if load-bearing and contain a lot of steelwork, and the chance of it working properly really are minimal. Even people walking by could cause the sound to cut in and out if you did get a signal through.
Standard Wi-Fi allows a much stronger signal but still may struggle depending on the building layout.
Obviously you could run a cable that distance. Have you considered that?

Reliably fallible.

Hi, the cable is also an issue that I forgot to mention. It would be very awkward and tricky health and safety wise as it’s via a walkway and a door to consider.
I’ll have a look again at the Bluetooth devices whilst considering your thoughts. I just thought I’d throw it out there...
Cheers

How about using the transmitter and receiver from an in-ear monitoring system? Just plug the output into the PA instead of headphones. That's likely to be better quality and more reliable than Bluetooth which uses data compression.

Bluetooth devices (and wifi systems) will introduce a noticeable amount of latency. This will not be a problem if you can't hear the speaker in the other room yourself, but keep this in mind. If you can hear it, then you may need use some good isolating headphones.

Checkout the Stageline WSA-24 system.
https://www.img-stageline.com/products/audio/microphones-and-headphones/audio-transmission-systems/wsa-24t/
Works on 2.4GHz radio frequency and doesn't need a licence.
Works well; slight latency - delay - but it's 18ms (the equivalent of someone 18 feet away from you) and has never been an issue for me.
I use it when I encounter situations where running cables is impractical. Drop me a PM if you want more details.

Just note that it may still not work at a distance with wals un the way. 30m line-of-sight range can be a lot less with obstacles. Ideally try in advance, and make sure that you get the transmitter and receiver as physically close as you can. If your keyboard has a demo song, then use that to help set up and check the reciever is working. If not, try and co-opt someone to hit a few keys for you
