Reporting a post - Default "Notify me" setting

Post by Kwackman »

When you report a post using the "!" button, the default for "notify me" is "ON".
I suggest, if it's easy, that it should default to "OFF".

I recently reported a post, and forgot to select "OFF", which meant the moderator dealing with the post, by default, also had to waste time writing a message to me too.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who has made this mistake (my ego hopes I'm not the only one!)

It might save the mods some unnecessary work?

We will certainly discuss it, but I think most people who go to the trouble of reporting a problem would appreciate knowing that it has been dealt with, and I don't think it's 'wasting time' to thank conscientious forum members for their help and let them know what's going on.

Technical Editor, Sound On Sound...
(But generally posting my own personal views and not necessarily those of SOS, the company or the magazine!)
In my world, things get less strange when I read the manual...

What about defaulting to an extra 'whatever' option? So a mod can then decide whether it's worth replying or not?

Reliably fallible.

It's a built-in feature of phpBB software so would cost money to customise... and I agree with Hugh; it's no biggie for we mods to reply and it seems the least we can do given someone bothers to alert us (although it might feel like mods are omnipresent, we can't see or read everything so rely on the community to point things out).

I did send you a PM recently after you reported a post, but that was a courtesy and not driven by the forum settings.

I see it as being part of a community. Good manners bring us all together.

There is a profound African saying, "A white man who cannot dance is a victimless crime, whereas a white man with a djembe drum ..."
