It's a tough time to be trying to make a living in the creative arts.
But then, it's always been a tough time to be trying to make a living in the creative arts...

Abysmal really.
And Apple News+ looks like it's adopting similar low-paying practices with magazine content for its newly-launched aggregated mag subscriptions...

Bandcamp says hello i'm thinking!
Streaming services for singles (this is what the masses like anyway) and Bandcamp for albums. I really think all artists should be on there. They pay respectably, and because of that the owners deserve the cut
Make them rich, not these muppets who pay the artists and content creators nothing
But maybe i'm wrong...

It's a download rather than streaming service (though you can stream from it) and they take 15%. You also pay PayPal fees (or any other transaction fees obviously), so on a recent £5 customer payment i took home £3.90.
But we're obviously not really comparing apples with apples.

The more of bandcamp I see, the more I like it.
I hope they never change their business model. And if they do, I see a new business opportunity. Not that I'm without enough to do at the moment, but if they sold out I'd give it some serious consideration.
That, or quit entirely and enact my retirement plan early, which is to head out to the middle of nowhere in Wales and farmstead my way to independence.
I can't wait to leave the IT world behind altogether. Not that I don't like it, but when push comes to shove I'd rather be growing my own vegetables, keeping chickens and noodling on synthesizers as far away from "civilisation" as I can get

I think the biggest threat to bandcamp (in Europe at least), and more so for soundcloud, is article 13*.
Mandatory filter costs and the potential fines could cause them to withdraw from the EU area altogether.
* now article 17.
