Pioneer Toraiz Squid

Post by DavyP »

I kind of did an Impulse buy on one of these after first reading about it yesterday. It's a new sequencer from Pioneer with CV/gate, midi, usb etc

I literally just plugged it in, connected up the MS-101 ad hit play.

I'll do something proper and Melodic with it using more synths tomorrow.

First impressions are positive though and it seems like it will have a fast and easy workflow

Dug a little deeper, learnt a bit more and came up with this.

I used the Moog One, Prophet Xl, Deepmind 12, MS-101, Neutron, Boog D and Erica Techno System.

It's really nicely built and fun to jam with. Liking it so far :)

I hadn't heard about the Squid, so I had a brief look at the blurb last night. Looks interesting. Will have to look in detail when I'm home over the weekend.

I was the same, only heard of it the other day and though, sounds good, so I bought one

Made use of the performance features again to tweak the sequence in this.

MS-101, Prophet Xl backing, and lots of tweaking.

I call it Bull Run....

I intend to spend the next week or so digging deeper into the Toraiz Squid to suss out it's various features so thought I might as well do a Guide to it as I go along.

So here's part 1, a basic overview.

I'll cover the Global section next in detail and apply the different features in a practical and musical context.

I'll try and keep them concise and to the point, and there will be no waffle as i don't do talky videos!!! Apart from the fact it would be weird hearing my own voice on screen my Northern Irish accent might just confuse people :D

This first video is just a basic visual guide to the Squids features.

Live jam with the Toraiz Squid, bust out the full armoury if synths for this one.

Still getting used to it but it's got a nice fast work flow and feels good to use.

Prefer it over my Squarp Pyramid

I bought a Polyend Medusa a couple of weeks back but this was my first time using it.

I sequenced it from the Squid using the various performance features and then just tweaked the sound to see what does what. Seems pretty straight forward and sounds good :)

Connected multiple synths to the Squid in this one and made use of its various performance features to pull this track together.

Your grooves are sounding better all the time ... lovely stuff

Also, I quite like the look of that Squid ... I love the pyramid but it can be a little 'fiddly' on occasion and the Squid looks to me to be a little more accessible for having a quick play/jam with. Probably a better sequencer for jamming with other people for the same reason. I'll look into it a bit more myself when I get a spare half hour.

This was a quick jam I put together this morning on the Squid

I used the Keyboard Velocity out to Filter in patch to use the keyboard to effect the filter then just messed about with the sequencer, synth and DJS-1000 for percussion.
