I'm pretty sure that I got mine from Insulation Express and paid a delivery fee as it was still the cheapest alternative. Just spend a little time thinking through how you will use it so that you only need to order the once.

They're on my list to call tomorrow, the added complication (because there wasn't enough beforehand) is that my road has a low bridge at both ends, so I need to find out how big their delivery lorries are.
I'm confident on my amounts though.
Probably.

Yeah, I did wonder about that. And then I thought, "but I only want to do this once. And furthermore, if Max says 60kg/m3 is the best compromise, then I'm not going to argue." :D

:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

That was my take so I went to some trouble to get the RW3 variant. TBF the higher density stuff is easier to work with too.

I've just had it confirmed from Rockwool themselves. The 'Sound Insulation Slab' product which you see in Wickes and elsewhere has a density of 35kg/m3 which is okay-ish for broadband absorption panels but not ideal for corner bass traps.

Funnily enough I've just had an email from them this morning as well. But mine said it was 45kg/m3...
Either way, I've got some phone calls about RW3 to make today. Cheers Hugh.

Hmmm... I think they make so many different products with such similar names that anything is possible. I asked about "Sound Insulation Slab" (product 180891, 400x1200x100mm) which is what Wickes current sell. And the reply was:

Good Morning,

The Sound Insulation Slab is 35Kg/m3 in density.

I hope this helps.

Many Thanks and Kind Regards,

Ah, I asked about 180889, to which i got the following response:
"The code you have mentioned below is Sound Insulation slab which is the equivalent to the RWA45, if you require the RW3 which is a 60kg slab then please quote 181186 ( im assuming you require 100mm thick slab) .
Thanks Nat"
Obviously not just the size that's different.

Insulation Express's lorries are too tall. :(
However it looks like Jewson can do me a special order - but will take a fortnight.
Definitely making progress!
Will see what Selco can do tomorrow. :)

Jewson and Selco and currently looking the most promising as I can go and collect it rather than having to try and find out how tall people's delivery lorries are...
Also Jewson's prices are good so I might just give myself a couple of weeks to work on fixing the sound holes before that lot turns up.

Could you arrange to meet a lorry on the other side of a bridge?

Two practical problems with that:
1) I think you'd have to work very hard to find a delivery company that would sign over a product to someone not at a specified delivery address.
2) The other side of the bridge is central York, where not a lot of HGV parking exists... :D
Anyway, one of Selco or Jewson should be able to provide so it will just be a balance of price vs order time.

I did, but at over £40 a pack that's going to cost me about £60 more than Jewsons.
I can be patient for that much.

Well Jewsons have come through in the end with the cheapest price and by far the best service. I can wait a few days for them to get it in stock for that kind of response.

It's a knock on effect of the SoS regulars recommending acoustic treatment as the first step too a good recording room. If we'd suggested a good coffee machine I wonder if there'd be a shortage of Tassimo pods? :D

 I know... I'm trying to secure a few packs myself at the moment and am having trouble finding someone that genuinely does have it in stock and doesn't require me to buy an entire pallet load!

Maybe we should have put in a bulk order for SOS forumites?

There's definitely been some sort of issue going on for a while, Jewsons were struggling to get hold of any at all when I needed an extra couple of packs a few months ago.
