Native Instruments software crashing.
Native Instruments software crashing.
Has anybody else experienced problems with NI software after the latest Win10 update?.
Cubase closes down when I try to open projects that might or might not use NI warez, but if I try to open stuff from NI in an empty project Cubase also closes down which make me think that NI is the culprit.
Native access won't open even after upgrading to the latest version, and both Kontakt and Komplet Kontrol chrashes when I fire them up in stand alone mode.
On top of that I had to reauthorize several Izotope VSTs(Izotope, Thrash, etc.), as well as updating my Steinberg elicenser.
Both Cubase and soundcard drivers are the latest version.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Cheers, Jesper

I don't think so.
Afraid I can't offer any insight. Can you be more specific about which Win 10 update you've just had? They don't all get pushed out at the same time. I've had them arrive at least 4 months apart on my two PCs before.
Reliably fallible.
Re: Native Instruments software crashing.
Why a software crash probably related to a Win10 update doesn't belong in the Windows forum merely because Cubase is part of the text is beyond me.
I've tried NI tech support, but this is all they have to offer:
"Due to the high amount of incoming requests, we currently cannot achieve our desired response times. We thank you in advance for your patience until we get to your request."
Seems to me that I'm not the only one with problems.
Edit: We must have been typing at the same Wonks. I missed your answer.
Everything worked up till 23/9, but yesterday(24/9) several NI warez or Cubase running NI VSTs started to crash. It only seems to affect Kontakt, Komplete Kontrol, and Maschine 2, both as VSTs and stand alone. Everything else work OK.
The only change on my system was a security update KB2267602, which comes in different versions.

Re: Native Instruments software crashing.
Are you aware that illegal cracked software is known as warez? If you have bought a legal copy of Native Instruments software I would suggest that you do not call it warez.

Re: Native Instruments software crashing.
Warez is cracked SW?. I thought it was just a fancy name for SW. I guess you'll have to be a little overbearing with those of us who doesn't get most of the internet experience in our native language. I stand corrected
It's entirely legal and my use of Native Access would probably have hinted so to fellow NI users.
I actually ended up with the entire Komplete(standard) package, even though I was only in the market for Kontakt, because it was cheaper. Go figure.

Hence the suggestion that SOS wasn't the right place to ask about it...!
If you think a Windows update has borked some of your plugins then a clean reinstall would be the logical place to start.

Re: Native Instruments software crashing.
I'll assume you're thinking about the NI software, not Win10.
Under normal circumstances I would have done so, but it's seemingly only possible using Native Access which also doesn't work, so I'm kind of stuck at the moment.
I forgot to mention in my original post that I also had to update my eLincenser, as well as reauthorizing several pieces of Izotope SW(Iris 2, Thrash, etc.). It's possible that more SW is affected, but things have gotten a little out of hand ever since I discovered the group "Audio Plugin Sales, Deals and Freebies" on Facebook
If you press Tech Support button at the NI website you're being redirected to the Support Community page where's there's a banner saying; "Due to the high amount of incoming requests, we currently cannot achieve our desired response times. We thank you in advance for your patience until we get to your request".
And if you reach out to customer support you being send back to Tech Support. Stuck in a loop, which is somehow very fitting regarding what we do

Re: Native Instruments software crashing.
I'm not familiar with Native Access. Is it not possible to remove the offending software and reinstall it again...? Can you dive into the relevant entries under Add/Remove Programs and find something like a repair install...?
It would be worth temporarily disabling any AV/Firewall and other background processes to see if that makes a difference. Perhaps you could do a System Restore back to when it was last working then pause Windows updates...? Windows Event Viewer might also shed some light on the cause of the crashes.

Re: Native Instruments software crashing.
If there's a way to re-install NI SW without use of Native Access, I can't find it. No matter what you do, NI directs you towards Native Access.
Event viewer reports quite a few errors, some of them obviously about NI crashes, but also quite a few other things.
Disabling firewall and virus protection, both build-in, doesn't change anything.
The only thing affected seems to be parts of my NI collection, and luckily I bought Komplete not so long ago, meaning only a few projects are affected.
I think I will just hang back for a couple of days and see if a NI SW update solves the problem.
Basically I guess I was just hoping that someone would tell me that it was a common problem.

Re: Native Instruments software crashing.
Sometimes I've had to resort to manually downloading a slightly older NI update in zip format and reinstalling that, and then using the official process to update to the newest version.

Re: Native Instruments software crashing.
Martin, it's certainly worth trying out. But the problem is, where do I find an older version?.
I've navigated through the NI site several times and everything seems to go through Native Access these days.
The only thing that I can download directly is Native Access, which still doesn't work.

Try removing it with "Revo Uninstaller" (free version) from https://www.revouninstaller.com/revo-un ... -download/
Point it at the Ni updater and choose the deep delete option, followed by clear everything.
The thought process here is it's been updated over an older version and it's crashing out on startup, then it suggests that one of the config files is corrupted. Just removing the NI Control centre I suspect would leave behind the config preferences, but this hopefully would give it enough of a scrub for you that you can then reinstall it fresh.
My only concern is that it might not pick up the installed plugs once reinstalled, although I'm not sure on current app behaviour in that regard. If it doesn't I can dig up a solution for that.

Re: Native Instruments software crashing.
Pete, thank you for the suggestion, but unfortunately it didn't solve my problem.
Having Revo in the tool box might prove useful at a later point, though.
As I wrote in previous comment, elicenser suddenly needed an urgent upgrade and a couple of Izotope authorizations had gone missing, so I looked for changes on my system, and the only thing I could find that had changed overnight was an update to Windows Defender. But whether it's the culprit is beyond my knowledge.

Further to my previous comments, I've just remembered that I bookmarked several NI pages when I ran into related problems with Native Access, so there may be something here that helps:
https://www.native-instruments.com/foru ... ng.314736/
https://www.native-instruments.com/foru ... ll.314612/
https://support.native-instruments.com/ ... 1496233278
Hope this helps!

Seems like their recent staff cuts have affected their customer support:

Re: Native Instruments software crashing.
Thanks to all of you for your kind advice
. Turns out that I was the cause of the problem myself.
My VPN had a kill-switch implemented in the last update, which I was informed about, in a mail, a few days ago.
I had forgotten everything about activating the option in order to try it out, but when I suddenly couldn't connect to the internet after turning off the VPN, I was at first a little confused until it came back to me. Deactivating it was enough to restore full function to everything NI.
Why it interfered with some of my software, and especially the NI stuff is a mystery to me, but I'm sure somebody more knowledgeable could easily figure that one out
And I feel quite lucky that I didn't have rely on NI support at the present. 30 percent of their staff was laid off a short while ago, 20 percent with immediate effect. And according to NI it is supposed to improve the customer experience.

I think the main site for 'crakd' software was called Warez although I had another name for it 'Please Give Me a Virus' a pal of mine ran a commercial studio with pirated software, and more often than not he was doing yet another 'complete rebuild' and he couldn't figure out why he needed do that every other week!

If NI has laid off 30% of the staff, is that 30% of staff in general or 30% of support staff? Maybe the products are so good that they don't need support - I wish!
I use NI products and I find the whole bunch of it confusing, it seems many products do the same as other. I bought Komplete 10 some years ago and half of it I don't use, it confuses me and the Kontakt GUI, well, I went out and bought Halion instead which apart from the current fad for 'any colour as long as it's black' is much better.
I really do miss Gigastudio - that was an exemplar of a good design and usability, till TASCAM got hold of it and ditched it.

Across the board from the coverage that's been reported, as sales and R&D both seemed to have been affected.
