Mic stand for recording acoustic

Recently purchased a Neumann km184 to start some serious recording and need a suggestion for a mic stand, ideally small footprint but safe ! Doesn’t need to be a tall one as I will only be using it to record acoustic.

Whilst I use K&M stands, you can get decent stands for less that won't slip or move if tightened properly. Especially for light home use. But once you have a decent stand I'd suggest that a decent shock mount will be of the biggest benefit.

The KM184 normally only comes with a clip mount, so I'd suggest looking at one of Rycote's excellent offerings. Don't forget to use an anti-vibration loop of mic cable between the stand and the mic itself.

For a smaller footprint consider one with a heavy round base.

Agreed - just look at all the mic. stands and accessories on the K&M website and then choose what best suits your needs.

Having both the stand and boom arm extendable makes it very versatile but that versatility doesn't come cheap. I've had mine for something like 35 years and they were secondhand when I bought them so they're certainly well built.

I have had very good results with the Ultimate line of stands.
The "Ulti-Boom Pro-TB - Telescoping" is a great value to provide flexibility on any size stand...contrary to intuition, a boom on a tallish stand uses a small space more effectively than something tiny as you can push the stand against the wall partially under a desk or table and have the microphone 'lean' towards you. I think that I paid $60 for my combination with the boom listed above on a telescoping stand with a weighted base (more compact than tripod bases).
I easily hang heavy large diaphragm mikes off this as well as X-Y small condensor pairs (for stereo on guitars or woodwinds.

Like the OP, I too am looking for a mic stand for recording acoustic guitar. My 40 year old boom stand has finally gone to the big studio in the sky.
The problem is, all I need is a straight stand, but they all seem to have a minimum height of 1m, which is too high for a sitting down acoustic guitarist. The alternative is to buy a boom stand and not bother with the boom, without which the height is commonly around 70-80 cm, but involves not using the boom which you've paid for and don't need.
I need a 'straight up' stand to mount my rode stereo bar on for ORTF, or my wide bar for wide spaced.
I've almost lost the will to live in searching for a webpage where the vendor or even manufacturer can be bothered to provide specifications about the working heights of the stand.
Hopefully, some evil person will enjoy humiliating me by pointing to such a website following less than a second searching.

We have two of these and they are great small footprint, flexible stands for recording acoustics. It is known for its agility around a drum kit to and have even reached a few brass sections in their time.

I have one of these and it's a decent bit of kit, I use mine as an iPad stand but am considering a couple more as the fold up so small.

Most of the time I use a stand but occasionally I find the H-Clamp useful http://exploraudio.com/categories/instrumounts-h-clamp-/1/.

Once you’ve sorted an optimum position it’s a set and forget solution.
