Having a problem with the Forte in standalone EZD2 in W10.
Basically, if I try to change the ASIO properties it crashes. However using EZD2 via StudioONE 4, and Cubase 10 is fine. I knew it was discontinued, but had an email from Focusrite saying driver development has stopped. It's a pity, as apart from this they're rock solid and sound great.
I have one each for the Scan desktop I7 and my I7 Acer laptop (shortly to be replaced with a beauty from Scan, if it ever finishes it's memory tests, but that's another story), but now I'm thinking it will have to be a single mobile interface between both, as that kind of quality is a bit dear for me to buy two.
I was thinking about a Baby Face Pro but wondered if there was any advantage to a USB "C" i/o as though the desktop has "normal" USB 3, the incoming laptop has the C version.
Any help appreciated. Thanks
Focusrite Forte a-like USB interface
Re: Focusrite Forte a-like USB interface
The problem with USB C connectors is that they can be used for various things. Is it a USB or Thunderbolt 3 port? If it’s USB, it won’t matter to you because it will be USB 3.

"The Best" piece of gear is subjective.

Haven't used mine for a few weeks now, I will check out and see if it's a general issue.
Such a great piece of kit, it'd be really sad to see it going to the bin..

Re: Focusrite Forte a-like USB interface
Hmmm......
I *think* it's actually Thunderbolt. Which is a different kettle of worms
https://www.scan.co.uk/3xs/configurator/3xs-scan-performance-17-music-production-laptop-with-thunderbolt
To retain compatibility with the desktop I'd have to go USB anyway, so it's looking like a single BF Pro, with all the uncoupling and reinsertion of monitor cables that will involve
The laptop has USB2. Is there anything comparable to the audio and latency of the Forte cheaper than the BF Pro ?

Re: Focusrite Forte a-like USB interface
Yes, it's the Thunderbolt model with the desktop chip in it and your I/O options on the case are:
I/O Ports
4 x USB 3.0 ports (USB3.1 Gen1) (1 x powered USB port, AC/DC)
1 x USB 3.1 Gen2 port (Type-C)
1 x USB 3.1 Gen2 / ThunderboltTM 3 combo port (Type-C)
The controllers Focusrite work with have been known to be picky with standards newer than themselves and I note that the Forte page explicitly says "USB 2" over and over, so whilst normally I'd say give it a go, I'm not overly confident either given the laptop is USB 3 and running W10 which also looks to have superceeded the drivers.
The Thunderbolt will be switchable to USB-C, although that fact doesn't really make a difference in this scenario either.

I’ve never been let down by RME gear and support, so my vote, for what it’s worth seeing as that’s all I use, is for the BF.

The Audient stuff seems good as well but I haven't tried nor analyzed.

Re: Focusrite Forte a-like USB interface
While I'm thinking about it......
I used the Fortes with a buffer setting of 64 samples which seemed fine for recording Helix Native, etc.
Are there any other USB 2, 3, 3.1 win 10 interfaces I should consider with my computers ?
As my inexpensive SE-X1 mic will normally be plugged via a Voicelive 3, I thought maybe I could get two less expensive interfaces for the price of the BF Pro ?
I'm not trying to be lazy, and am researching at the moment, but any recommendations are welcome.
