X/M32 V4 firmware update released, and Wing news(ish)

Post by DGL. »

The new X/M32 V4 firmware is out now! and it what a lot of X/M32 users have been waiting for.

From what I remember,

The big was is that for routing it adds 4 user banks for inputs and 6 for outputs which can take 8 sources from anywhere (i.e. 1 block could have 4 from AES50, 2 from the local inputs and 2 from the card), so no blocks of 8 routing limitations! (although the "blocks of 8" still exist for both compatibility reasons and to speed up setup when the routing limitation is not an issue).

Support has also been added for the DP48.

Graphics have also been changed to make them look more modern and there is a colour option for the RTA.

Lastly M32's with the V2 fader board have had the fader movements slowed down, this is to both help with fader life and to make the faders quieter for theatre applications.

For more info here is the video from Behringer,

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UwDWC53lsbU

As for the wing, it seems the latest announcement about it/release was sue to be on the 22nd, but Behringer can't make it so they've changed it to the 17th!, so hopefully all will be revealed Sunday.

Wing news

Post by DGL. »

Wing announcement will be made at 18:00 GERMAN TIME (so GMT +1, that's 17:00 GMT) on the music tribe community. Believe you may need to sign up to view, but the old MG/Behringer forums login will still work.

Any idea where you need to go to catch the announcement? It says to go to community.musictribe.com, but that just takes you to the home page. I can't find a thing.

Not a clue, just saw the announcement on the Behringer FB that said to go to community.musictribe.com

Zilch. Oh well, I showed willing.

So I went to my contacts...

A touch surface for the X32? Presumably the rack version? Is this correct?

If so, then it might be useful to some, maybe even me at some point, but hardly earth-shattering IMHO. :boring:

The Behringer WING console

Post by DGL. »

New console, see the attached video for all the specs, no pricing yet but looks AMAZING. Has proper PRO series pre-amps and possibly outputs on board (8x8 iirc.), new premium effects rack, plus a standard effects rack and what looks like different choices/options for channel processing (i.e. different compressor emulations).
64X64 Dual SD recorder, capacitive touch screen that can be angled to suit. Stageconnect, 3xAES50 64x64? card slot for waves/dante etc. and more.

Indeed, interesting that they've ditched most of the onboard pres, but that makes sense.

It'll all end up about "when" and "how much"?

Yes the when? and how much! But this is Behringer, the how much will be getting other manufacturers worried I would assume. But whilst this won't be sold for pocket money prices it will probably be a good amount cheaper than both the competition and what people might think it will cost.

Tch! Can't trust some people!

Looking like a whole new desk then?

Looks nice! I saw SoundGrid mentioned, did anyone see any mention of Dante? Nice to see combi jacks on the back - a couple of stageboxes/personal monitor mixer connections and this could be a tidy live system.

Ah, yes, Dante included. It's all about the price now...

Might be a bad time to sell an X32 and a good time to buy one!

According to FB shipping (from their Chinese factory) starts in December,

Behringer FB wrote:We proudly present WING - our full stereo 144 I/O digital mixing console.
A big hug to all our amazing customers for supporting us in the past 30 years and congratulations to our German Innovation team for delivering this wonderful console and all other teams who have contributed. I couldn't be more proud of all of you.
Best of all, we'll start shipping from our factory coming December.

I was talking to one of the other band members last night about this. This is a personal view, based on our specific needs...

Looks like we get 16 line inputs onboard - THANK YOU, Behringer, for making those analogue inputs combi sockets! In some situations this would be all we'd need.

It's looking like we have one expansion card slot, so is it going to be either SD card recording or Dante connectivity? Damn, that would be a shame. Or maybe those AES50 ports could be configured to handle Dante? I really hope so. I see more flexibility in Dante than AES50.

And Behringer's AES50 S16/32 stageboxes don't have jack inputs. :madas: Though the SD16 does!:?:

The touch screen? Not interested in the slightest. Sure, put a display on there, but I hope, probably in vain, that I don't HAVE to use the damned thing.

It says in the video “Dual SD card live recorder 64 channels. So that might already be in there freeing the slot up for Dante or other stuff...

Looks like a very interesting desk!

Now how much? :o

No, sadly not (and a big omission IMO) the SD recorder uses the, single, expansion slot.

The SD card recorder is disappointing anyhow, you have to use stupidly small cards.

Firstly DANTE is supposedly an internal expansion that uses the control/audio network ethernet jacks.

Lastly, inc. 20% VAT, 2,999€

https://www.thomann.de/gb/behringer_wing.htm

Another feature is that stereo channels now only take up 1 fader, so you could have the 20 main faders being 20 stereo channels, whereas on the X32 it would be 2 faders for a stereo channel.

DGL. wrote:Firstly DANTE is supposedly an internal expansion that uses the control/audio network ethernet jacks.

Internal? How so? Everything I see points at Dante being an expansion slot option - which precludes using the SD card expansion board.

But if it re-uses those Ethernet (AES50, I assume) connection ports (perfectly sensible to my way of thinking), then... Yes!!! I was told elsewhere that this wouldn't be possible...

And I like that price!

From Robert Lofgren, a beta tester, over at the PSW forums,

Robert Lofgren wrote:Wing has two option cards. One internal (populated when ordering) and one external like on the x32.

The internal one can be fitted with either sg or dante. This means that you can record up to 128ch of audio if you want to

Stereo channels can be controlled by a single DCA fader on the X32 and the latest firmware, I think, allows custom layers so, although you have only 8 DCAs you can mix and match their faders in a custom layer.

The Wing does look a seriously nice bit of kit for the money though. Not that I'll be selling my X32C anytime soon, it does everything I need and more, especially since I've mostly retired :D .
