I don't know what will come of this but those of you who know me may remember that I did a lot of freelance work for a small PA Hire company in Manchester. Sadly the boss (and my mate) passed away suddenly this week. I don't know yet if his family will ask for my help to sell the inventory (it's all pretty raw just now) but even if they don't I could probably post a list of what is available in the hope that some of it will realise something approaching it's true worth. I'll keep you posted.

I have talked to my son (a chem engineer by day) about selling my gear if something sudden happens to me.
He is quite familiar with it as we do sound gigs together...
He will take care of it..

It's a very wise precaution.

I've come across a depressingly large number of 'barn sales' where a widow has been desperate to clear a lock-up, or garage, or spare room of the late Hubby's 'toys', not knowing the true value of any of it and getting ripped off left right and centre.

After my own near-experiences I created a (surprisingly large) spreadsheet which lists all of my audio equipment, with serial numbers, original purchase prices, stored location, which accessories belong with it, where the manuals etc are, and any updates or repairs it might have had, plus a (realistic) guide sale price (which I review annually) or requests as to what should happen to specific items.

It has brought great piece of mind to me, because I know it will help Mrs R and the kids to dispose of my crap with some confidence that they have a reasonable idea about what to expect.

I have a spreadsheet of all equipment purchases anyway for the business records, so it didn't need much extra work to turn it into something that would be genuinely helpful to the nearest and dearest come the fateful day...

Alone similar lines, I have another document that details all the other aspects of my life that someone will eventually have to trawl through. All the subscriptions and online accounts that will need cancelling, all the relevant logins and passwords etc etc... all the bank accounts, shares, pensions and savings... A lot of it is stuff that could be found in other domestic files, but it's handy to have everything collated in one place, and I found it helped to focus the mind on just how complicated a life can be!
