Hello. Just curious... two Atari STs selling on eBay, yet people seem more interested in the 1040ST that's not in quite as good condition as the 520ST, which has also been upgraded to 1MB anyway. Is there an obvious reason for the 1040 one being that much more desirable?
Is there more further RAM expansion capacity in the 1040 than the 520? I remember much about them, it was nearly 30 years ago.
Thanks
Atari 1040ST FM -vs- Atari 520ST FM (upgraded RAM)?
Re: Atari 1040ST FM -vs- Atari 520ST FM (upgraded RAM)?
As far as I know there is no functional difference between them. I am assuming they are both STFM models as opposed to one being an STF or an STE.
A number of RAM upgrades were available for the ST, so maybe people are preferring the factory installed RAM over a potentially less reliable 3rd party upgrade.
Wouldn't bother me though, the upgrade on my 520 never had any problems.
The max ram you can upgrade a stock 520STFM or 1040STFM to is 4Mb, and that's the same for both.
