Sad to hear of the death of John Prine from Covid 19.
There are very few songwriter with his gift for expressing so much in so few words. The first thing I remember hearing from him (on a TV show) was this chorus :
"Daddy won't you take me down to Mulenburg County,
Down to the Green River where Paradise lay.
Well I'm sorry my Son but you're too late in asking.
Mr Peabody's railway done hauled it away."
RIP, John Prine

Favourite lyric ever is in the last verse of "Fish and Whistle"
"On my very first job I said thank you and please
They made me scrub a parking lot down on my knees
Then I got fired for being scared of bees
And they only give me fifty cents an hour.

People often mistake me for a grown-up because of my age.

He was one of Bob Dylan's favourite songwriters, apparently.

awww. He was old as hell though. Something was bound to take him down soon. He totally opened up my eyes when I was a yoot

He was 73, only 6 years older than me. I used to think 70+ was a decent age until I felt myself approaching it
