Is there a list of all Tape Echo units ever made?

Discuss hardware/software tools and techniques involved in capturing sound, in the studio, live or on location.

They look like good value for money boxes. One of those and a RE20 will set you back £289.

Bear in mind the RE20 is not a tape echo unit but a digital simulation (which is, as has been mentioned, probably a better option in the real world).

To each their own, but I'd rather put that money toward a cheap synth that will do noises like that and a whole lot more.

e.g.
https://dubreq.com/product/stylophone-gen-x-1/... and this one even has its own analogue delay built in!

Whoa, yes, you are correct about that Synth unit and only $70 wow!

Getting back to the RE 20 Pedal, any way to make that wireless to make it sound very close to when plugged in?

No idea what you mean? Perhaps you can explain a little more?

It's a DJ performance tool Elf, I know my Model D will make this noises but I do see the advantages of the simplicity of those little boxes.

To use the RE20 without wired connection to the rig like using bluetooth technology or similar.

My rig is inside my Garage and during the summer I mostly sit outside listening to music, if I could have that RE20 in my hand to trigger the fx whenever I should want to would be perfect.

I don't think that's likely to be doable (at least not easily). You'd need TX and RX (not usually both in a single standalone Bluetooth box) latency would be considerable and you'd need the routing capabilities in your DAW/DJ software. Much easier to use a BT DJ controller with built in fx......

How do you control music playback from outside?

What about a wireless guitar set? Something like this: https://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-B ... tuEALw_wcB

Doesn't work through walls obviously...

Thanks! That's very close to what I can use with the RE20, only issue is as you've mentioned is it's line of sight, the range is more than what I would need as I would need like 30' max so that's go.

So one with maybe RF capability if there is one.

And me too....

Guitar wireless kit would work but you'd need two which would have made it cumbersome back in the day but the modern 'two dongles' devices might be usable. Good thought Drew

I have the music running from my Auto DJ software so no need to control anything but if needed I can control the main features from my phone if/whenever need to skip track or search for and load/play any tune.

Would be nice to have the RE20 to play around with wherever I'm sitting.

AHA, got something Drew!

Shows it works "30m through walls so should be fine for me.

Only one way to find out right? :P

Good thing is I can try both units at the same time and if it should not work then I can send them back and only lose on the shipping.

Regarding the RE20 connection what would be the configuration for the foot pedal and my rig? Right now I have a Digitech RDS 1900 fx machine's OUT and IN going into the Tape Monitor on my Pioneer SR 303 Reverb.

No worries on the Mono, my rig is in Mono mode.

Remember you'll need two sets. I'm assuming they are 2.4GHz but the listing is not very informative in that regard. Digital ones usually auto select free channels but if not you'll need two different channels. Also they will only give you mono (you would need 4 for stereo).

edit :- Hi Elf

Basically the same system as the Digitech. use the in and out of the RP20 in conjunction with the send and return on the desk.

Hi, I am an old muso age 76 and only just saw you message regarding how many tape echo there were made. I've been researching and documenting these for many many years as a labour of love. My book (on the pc) is now in two parts having many photos for the echos. It's not an information book just mainly showing photos. Most photos were from the net, my friends, and private collection. I can safely say that there were around 166 brands with over 500 models amongst the brands. And I am still finding new echos. My list has been published a few times on a number of tape echo dedicated sites (now removed needs to be updated, all takes time.)

Hey thanks for posting. I am mainly interested in the echo chambers from the 70s but would be happy to look at your list if you can give me a link any time please?

Hi sorry but I meant to say round 500 different models not 5000, I did submit a corrected post. I would need to dig out all the 70s models however it's a huge task from my books over 800 pages in two parts. The 70's was a huge time for tape echos many of those were cartridge or tape bin (rolands) models. I may put this out in digital form in the future.

All the best.

The clarification is appreciated Val. The SOS forum does not enable modifications to existing posts after a relatively short grace-period for editing has expired so initially your corrected post came over to us as a duplicate 'quoted' post of your previous message.

Hopefully all is clear at this point and again, thank you for taking the time to clarify.
