Always a shame to hear of any publication closing its doors, as I know how much hard work and devotion goes into getting each edition out of the publishing house doors!

Hope its writers find work elsewhere or survive online.

I was never a big Q reader in its heyday, but it had its place and fans. RIP.

me too! Haven't picked up a copy in years, but I was a regular reader from its launch until the mid-90s. Nothing is forever, but very sad to hear of its demise.

Agreed - I bought quite a few copies of Q over the years, and it helped me discover various new artists and bands, as well as find out more about ones I already knew.

It seems to be a sad fact of life nowadays that so many people find music 'disposable', and are not interested in finding out more about how it was conceived and created.

Q magazine did seem to lose it's way at one point & I switched to Word magazine, which is sadly no longer with us. It seemed to steal Q mags thunder. It had great cover CDs, some of which I still play in the car today.

I've noticed a lot of articles in the music mags are more often than not just recycled material these days, making out to be new interviews, when there is hardly any input from the artist

The same has also happened with hi-fi mags, which now on a monthly basis revisit 'classic' amps, CD players, loudspeakers, and so on.

I think it's indicative of their readership - the young kids aren't so interested, and we oldsters already have our optimised hi-fi sound systems and Q-style music collections, so they are attempting to appeal to our nostalgia to keep readers.

I can’t remember the last time I bought Q, it would have been for an in depth article about The Beatles most likely (50th anniversary of an album). I prefer ‘how to’ type magazines hence the SOS subscription.
I don’t think I ever discovered a new artist from a review or article.
Sad to see it go though.

I have to say I did discover a couple of new artists via Q's cover-mounted CDs, but gave up on the magazine a long time ago due to it becoming far too mainstream for me.

I used to love it but it all started to change - for the worse for me - as technology changed; it seemed to focus more on how to listen to music as opposed to what to listen to. It pretty much became a music "tech" magazine of sorts. But I have happy memories of its good years. Once on holiday in Spain somewhere I found a nice cosy music bar with a small "library" of several back issues; spent a very happy few quiet nights in there browsing them with a beer.

Sad to see it go...

Oh, bit of a name drop...I was working at Warner Music HQ several years ago and walked into an office to see Chrissie Hynde having a photo shoot taken for its front cover once. I melted. Absolutely melted.

I doubt she did though.

I bought it from its first issue, but got bored when they started to get obsessed with lists. Still sorry to see it go, though.
