I'm curious if you know how it works, and if i can apply a similar strategy or even buy a replacement to use on my Rode M3?
They are similar sized mics, although I'm reading that the C1000 capsule is 17mm while the m3 is 12.7mm

It works as an 'interference tube' which changes the way sound waves arrive at the capsule. It won't work on your M3 because the capsule dimensions are different.
