Altiverb problem

Post by forumuser899537 »

A common scenario for me is to use Altiverb as a plug-in with Audition on a Mac running Windows 7 Ultimate. I've done this for years but there is now a problem.
I can open Altiverb - I get the last used IR screen come up etc. and I can change the IR - but when I press play I get the blue circle which lasts forever and the only way out is to crash Audition.
I have updated the iLok to version 5.6 (from version 3.something) and tried it in both USB2 and USB3 hubs, but the result is the same.
Can anyone help?

Is it definitely Altiverb, and this happens on every project...? Can you create and play a simple new Audition project OK, add Altiverb, select a reverb, and then...it crashes when you try and play it again...? Are you running all the latest patches/updates available to you for the OS and both products...?

(You could try a clean reinstall of Altiverb, and failing that Audition, though I realise that's a hassle you'd probably prefer to avoid. The other thing you could try, recommended elsewhere in an old post, is to send the crash logs to Adobe.)

Thanks BJG. Yes, as you describe. Audition works fine but trying to add Altiverb crashes it. You can't even play it once, let alone play it again! Win7 is no longer supported but Audition is on a licence and the iLok is up to date. I used to get messages such as 'new IRs available' when I loaded Altiverb - not getting those but the IRs themselves load without a problem. Try to play one, though, and everything seizes up/crashes. It worked fine a couple of months ago and I have used it for years without a problem.

It might be worth re-scanning the plugins.

Launch Adobe Audition. Go to Effects > Audio Plug-In Manager. Make sure Rescan existing plug-ins is check-marked, and click on Rescan for plug-ins.

Thanks. I tried that. Rescan was checked for all plug-ins. I re-scanned but nothing has changed - same problem, I'm afraid. It continues to say Altiverb is working.
AudioEase suggested locating the log file so they could have a look at it (\Diagnostics), but Windows can't find it!

I think it's more likely to be an Audition problem than an AudioEase problem. I'm guessing that if you tried loading it up in something else (eg Reaper) it would be fine...(?) Next thing I'd probably do is test that, then try resetting Audition to factory settings. (Or if Altiverb also crashes other hosts, then a clean reinstall of that.)

Problem solved! I managed to send the diagnostics log to AudioEase support, who said the version of Altiverb was out of date. I have now reinstalled (without having to uninstall the old one, incidentally) and it works, all IRs bang up to date! Why program updates weren't flagged up automatically, I don't know, but it's working again and that's a great relief. It's an amazing piece of software that I couldn't do without!
