The PolyKobol is a rarity indeed! (let alone a *working* one!)
Not like those ebay listings that run: "Super rare vintage analog Korg synthesizer M1 rare as new except for the stuff that's broken and the stuff that's dirty *rare* you'll never find another one in this exact condition *buy now* roland yamaha fairlight CS80 jupiter eighties synthwave exclusive sought-after"...

I suppose the real interesting thing is that they are only borrowing it, well it's not like anyone would want to sell one is it and you ain't going to borrow one if you don't need one for evaluation for a potential product.
Re: The All-New Behringer Keyboards 'n' Stuff Thread
Hi guys,
Not posted on here for a while, kind of gone back to being a bit of a lurker. I have been keeping an eye on this thread and have noticed there has not been a lot mentioned about the Pro 800. Thinking about ditching one of the dust collectors (sorry microkorg etc) and throwing the proceeds towards one when they come out. I mean, an 8 voice analog polysynth that could be a pretty close clone of a prophet for circa £500, even that's pretty crazy, right? The Pro One seemed to get a good reception and with Gligli on board seems to give it hope for me. Thoughts anyone?

Re: The All-New Behringer Keyboards 'n' Stuff Thread
I can't say I ever thought the Prophet 600 was a particularly good synth, but these days, it seems anything analog seems to be droolworthy, despite what everyone thought at the time when these things were new...
Today, anything analog is automatically wonderful. Back then, there were great synths, and there were cheap synths, but there weren't that many great, cheap synths...

I have no experience of the Pro 800 but it's very nice to see you posting again, it was good to see you in person at the last physical SOS meet before lockdowns started and I hope we see more of you going forward

Re: The All-New Behringer Keyboards 'n' Stuff Thread
Similar to Desmond, I found the Prophet 600 one of the most boring synths I've ever encountered and I see very little value in a re-make. An odd choice to throw resources at IMHO, with the world clamouring for the CS-80, OB-Xa and Jupiter-8.

Thank you, likewise. Definitely will have to venture out to the next one!

I get that there are definitely other synths that justify a remake. I love the simplicity of the bread and butter analog polysynths of the era, but few seem to get a good reissue/remake in a decent form (looking at you, boutiques). The Pro-600 looks like a 'baby's first Prophet', but my favourite synths ever are the Junos, so that explains a lot

Re: The All-New Behringer Keyboards 'n' Stuff Thread
Well there is the following post from Jamie Munro over on GS in teh DS-80 thread when someone asked if it was real, noting that Jamie has been helping out with RD-8 firmware/beta testing and other things, so gets "information". although I must state that he is not employed by or has received any payment from Behringer/MT.
I hope this makes you a bit happier Hugh!

ftr the long advanced mentions are becoming a thing of the past, so the whole 2-3 year wait will no longer be a thing thankfully, big ships turn slowly but they still turn
I hope this makes you a bit happier Hugh!
Re: The All-New Behringer Keyboards 'n' Stuff Thread
The shared technology makes a lot of sense... I just hope the wait isn't too long, and it lives up to expectations.

Re: The All-New Behringer Keyboards 'n' Stuff Thread
The year is 2987. The ghosts of long-departed SoS members gather on page 3738295 of the All-New All-New Behringer Keyboards thread, eagerly awaiting news of the DS80 that is finally due to be announced today.
Current members of the forum look on the ghosts with some confusion, but tolerate the long-standing quirk of the synth section. Hardware interfaces were replaced by direct brainwave interfaces many centuries ago, and keyboards are a strange anachronism, barely remembered from a bygone age. The forum pities the ghosts and, retaining the good-natured ethos for which it was always known, the AI moderator (HughBot v3.7) has allowed the thread to continue running.
There is dismay as the device is finally shared in all its glory – the poly-AT works, but most are underwhelmed as the great announcement reveals that it is attached to a single, monophonic DS80 voice, in a unit with 17 mini keys (and of course, external PSU). It is rumoured that the ghosts agreed to haunt Behringer analogue synths in revenge, and not a single one of their devices ever stayed in tune again…

Come on now this is being recreated by Behringer, not Korg, Roland or Yamaha!

I like the idea of a Hughbot AI moderator... I'll be raising the idea with the SOS web developers Tomorrow!

You're NOT already automated Hugh?
I've always assumed that only a robot could type that fast yet not include any gibberish in their replies

2987? there will always be an Arpangel equivalent on this forum, in the future you’ll see his ghost walking down the dusty corridors of SOS plucking his spring reverbs and stroking his wooden end cheeks.

Re: The All-New Behringer Keyboards 'n' Stuff Thread
Interesting news on the OB-Xa that they are beta'ing. It looks like they have lost their copyright / trademark application for the name 'Oberheim' for the simple reason that everyone knows it's Tom's name and that it wouldn't be right to try and trademark that. He is too associated with Oberheim music products it seems.
I didn't realise that Gibson 'did the right thing' and gave him his name back a while ago. I knew that Yamaha had done it with Sequential/Dave Smith. Always good to see the big boys playing nicely.
The article I saw also mentioned that Dave Smith / Sequential had an application for OB-X as well but no further info on whether this is a genuine name of an upcoming product or just a blocking move against Behringer. I do hope it's the former but can understand if it's the latter.

That's not how it works. You might be able to register it, but unless you're actually using it in trade then you'd be wide open to having it invalidated.
