AKG K712 Pro headphone price check

Here in the US, they are $549 at Sweetwater who I trust and $349 at Amazon which seems suspiciously low.

"The Best" piece of gear is subjective.

They are sold around £200 in the UK, so it’s the Sweetwater price that is suspiciously high. AKG sell them direct on Amazon UK for £208 (just under $300) but you can find them from known name sellers from £180.

They were once a lot more expensive, but then AKG moved all its manufacturing to either China or eastern Europe, and dropped their prices significantly.

Yes, the competitive price in the UK from reputable dealers is currently £194, but there are also strangely high prices such as £249 (Rubadub) and the almost criminal £448 (claimed to be reduced by 39% from £746) from DirectNine:

It really pays to do some research on the 'going rate' before buying on-line, wherever you are in the world ;)

Thanks Martin. I was thinking that the Amazon listings might be counterfeits, I didn’t expect Sweetwater to be so out of sync with the rest of the world!

It's a numbers and buying power game. If you put in a big enough order they'll give you a better price. Maybe Sweetwater doesn't expect them to be high volume sales.

I love my 712s though!

$549.00 is the going rate in the US at all official retailers. It's what AKG is selling it for on their US website.

I was talking to my man at Sweetwater about my new Focal monitors and asked him about the AKGs. He explained that since Samsung bought AKG, Harmon, etc. the distribution channel is chaotic. He didn’t elaborate and said they’re trying to work it out. Anyhow, I’m interested in the Austrian Audio open backs now
