Bit of a newbie really......
recently bought allen & heath 24 channel mixer with direct outs on each channel. Am currently only using the group outs to my interface which goes into the mac and i track and mix it in there. I want to know how i can get each individual track back to the mixer so i can mess about with the eq and faders etc ( bored of using the computer and want a more hands on approach wen mixing). We record lots of instruments simultaneously with several spot mics which is why we got a mixer with direct outs for more control. Will i need an i/o interface like the motu 24i/o to get the tracks back to the desk??
any help would be appreciated!
cheers
mixer to mac and back?!?!?
Re: mixer to mac and back?!?!?
Yes, your interface will determine how many channels you can send out separately to the mixer. In your software, you will be able to set the output of each channel to a different output on your interface, from which you plug into the line inputs (or tape inputs if it has them) of your mixer.
Hope this helps.

Re: mixer to mac and back?!?!?
Greetings jonesyboy,
Just to add to the above post, the 24i/o isn't a standalone device, it needs to be connected to the PCI-324, PCI-424 or PCIe-424, which as the names suggest are fitted internally in one of your computer's PCI or PCIe slots. You haven't stated which Mac you have, and I haven't used one for over 20 years so I wouldn't know how to tell you to proceed from here anyway. However, I've been told that some Mac models don't have PCI slots (I'm not sure if the same is true of PCIe) so you'll need to check before you purchase.
Also, many modern multiple i/o interfaces can be chained or ganged to allow, for example, an 8 i/o interface to become a 16 or even 24 i/o interface so your options aren't limited to the MOTU unit.
