Ableton Live and Motion Tracking

Post by confirmhumanity »

Hi, I'm trying to figure out how I can control parameters in Ableton via tracking body movements in real time. I want to use it for a live performance, where the x, y, z of the performer's body parts would control different parameters of the sound in real time.

What software and hardware would I need for this to work? I've thought about Kinect, but does it work with Ableton? Do I need Max MSP? Any advice on how I could start approaching it, would be greatly appreciated!

There's a new Kickstarter called SOMI-1 which might be suitable for this; it's due to launch later today.

I recently listed various other motion/gyro gadgets here.

There's a system called Holon.ist which can harvest tracking data from various other systems like the Apple Watch.
