What Would You Do?

Post by frankerector »

I have a 2019 MacBook Pro...

Presonus AudioBox96...

Roland FA-06...

Eris E5 Monitors...

But then I have a Korg D-3200 that is in Perfect Shape.

Would you ditch the Korg D-3200 or incorporate it into the system.

If you were to keep it how would you use it?

How would you use it in the overall system?

It is an amazing feature full box that is in totally perfect shape.

And the small screen doesnt bother me in the least.

But if it were you, How would YOU use it?

Or should I just ditch it?

Any thoughts?

Right now I use the MacBook and Reaper.

I have loads of Arturia stuff and the system is flawless.

I just hate seeing the Korg D-3200 sit there not being used.

It is a really amazing unit.

I believe the traditional advice is 'have nothing in your life that you do not know to be useful or find to be beautiful.'

That may be your answer...

In general, I think that if it's not immediately obvious how something would fit in with your system, then it's probably a sign that you don't need it. ;)

It may be a shame, but that's probably the way I'd look at it.

I'm thinking you guys are right.

Why try and fix something that's not broke.

Also, like you both said, if there isn't an obvious use there probably isn't a use.

I think I'll just use it to record my practice sessions incase I stumble on something good.

You could keep it as part of an alternative setup, which is the reason I have just bought a Tascam digital portastudio.

I have it setup in a separate space, I use it for the times I can't be bothered with the rigmarole around the computer based setup, and it makes me work in a different way to how I use the computer.

Well there you go, keep it and use it on special occasions, but don't try and integrate it into your daily routine. :)

I guess I'm gonna hold onto it and use it as a separate system. Like stated above.

I will use it to record my practices in case I stumble upon something cool. Many times I have done the jamming about thing and thought it sounded cool and go, "Wait, what did I do?"

No more. I will have defeated that.

The first thing I'd do is change the post title.

Exactly, in fact, does the OP even need to be here?
If you’re happy working the way you are, which it seems, fall out and carry on.
And how we’d use your stuff, isn’t relevant to you.

You're right.

Why should I seek advice from experienced people when I can just wing it myself!

Thanks

"Experienced" just means people who've winged it before! :D

Frank what styles of music do you make.

Here's what I'd do. I'd keep both.

Because I would make tracks on the macbook. Bring it into the KorgD-3200.
Threafter take the Korg round to musicians to play on the tracks I made.
Because I have a mix of sampled Acoustic instrument on my macbook alongisde Electronic on several tracks, I'd replace the sampled with musicians.

Sometimes you have to have the confidence to trust your own judgement.
No matter how much experience you think people may have here, as you know, in music, it means nothing, ultimately, purely technical issues, maybe, but artistically, it’s up to you.

The OP was only asking for ideas/opinions. I agree with Arpy that ultimately you make your own decisions but asking the hive mind can throw up alternatives that one wouldn't have thought of alone and which may offer a better solution.

FWIW I would also use it as an alternative recording rig for remote recording and times when I don't want to do the whole 'studio' thing.

People often mistake me for a grown-up because of my age.

Thanks a ton to all that gave me ideas.

I will keep it and record my practices and I will also, as Tea for Two noted, record tracks on it for mobile recording.

My son is an amazing guitarist and I could bring the Korg to his house and he could lay down some guitar tracks.

I can then take what he records and put it in Reaper to shape and tailor the sound.

Again thanks for the great ideas.
