How do I add a name to a URL, such that it doesn't show the whole messy link?
For example, I would want https://www.ashunsoundmachines.com/downloads...
...to simply show in text as 'Manuals', but as a hyperlink.
Some forums prompt you when you ask to add a link, but this one doesn't seem to offer any dialogue.
How do I name a URL?
Re: How do I name a URL?
Manuals
Quote this page and you'll see the format you need.
name you want to display *but without the spaces around the "=" needed to get it to display without acting as a link.

Reliably fallible.

Thanks, mate. I was too late to edit the one I had in mind (I hate this miniscule editing window!), but I'll save this info for future.

Re: How do I name a URL?
You can use the 'code' tag to illustrate things like that
Code: Select all
Manuals

Here is an example....
<a href="https://www.soundonsound.com">SOS</a>
For what it's worth. I created a table in an HTML page, and added the URLs and friendly names of the websites I use, and if for example it is one that needs an id/password to access, I put a password hint there too.
OK, this can be done by editing the bookmarks in your browser, so for example I created folders in the Bookmarks Bar, and within that folder, added sub-folders, eg.....
Music - SOS - Reviews
By dragging a URL to the folder, it automatically creates the URL and from there I can edit the entry and give the entry a 'friendly' name and accompanying notes. The entry becomes a link which can be accessed by by clicking on it.
Additionally, a link can be created to folders/files on the PC can be added
