Going to be working occasionally for a client where I've been offered a small setup based around a pair of Dynaudio Heritage Special speakers, plus a sub.
I understand these are very fancy hifi speakers, but they are hifi speakers. Anyone know much about how suitable they might be for monitoring? What pitfalls to be aware of?
Acoustic treatment of the space should be reasonably decent.

I don't know them, but dynaudio know how to make good speakers. They may be voiced to be slightly flattering, and making a sub/sat system work well in a room is always a challenge.
My advice is simply to try them with material you know well -- ideally your own -- and listen critically to identify what you can/can't hear balanced the way you expect.

Does that "setup" include the power amplifier Jez? I ask because from the specification: https://www.dynaudio.com/home-audio/her ... tech-specs the speakers need a good one. The speakers are relatively insensitive at 85dB/W/mtr so even 100W will only produce about 105dB SPL.
More than loud enough of course but the speakers are 4 Ohms impedance so if you need to get an amp bear that in mind.
Dave.

Hi yes there will be some chunky high end Denon amplifier powering them, apparently.

Cheers, I'm sure I'll be able to work around them as long as they are ok, was more concerned there may be some big issue, like totally overexaggerated x, deliberately overmuted y etc that would render them completely unsuitable.
I'll be doing sfx work and synth/sample based music on them for games so it's not like I'll be critically mixing orchestral recordings or something.

That's great then, in my book, Denon never made a bad anything!
Dave.

Hmmm... I won't go hugely off-topic... suffice to say that I've recently installed two Denon digital recorders which, excellent though they are, have a very odd 'gotcha' which I couldn't fathom - and neither could Denon UK Support. In the end I worked out what was going on by experimental trial and error. I suggested to Denon that a rewrite of the manual might be in order...

Well Mike I AM going to go a leeetle bit further OT! Many years ago a TV guy I did audio repairs for ask me for an estimate for a Denon top of range cassette deck repair that had been dropped. The 'computer control' board was cracked but worse, the capstan motor PCB had cracked across the ferrite magnet ring. No infernalnet then so I quoted a huge amount and guessed the customer would cancel. He did and I got the deck in lieu of my fee.
The PCB took hours to bridge out but a call to Denon service dept got me a complete motor assy' for about £5! Super deck I used it for several years.
Dave.
