PaulXstretch VST and AU is awesome!

Post by ManFromGlass »

This has been out for awhile. I just came across it. I was used to using the stand-alone version.
It is fantastic for making amazing pad like sounds from your audio files.
It’s free. It doesn’t really have a manual so I had to find a YouTube to help me understand some of the subtleties. Go for the YouTube that has been up there the shortest period of time.
I’m no expert but I have it working in Logic if anyone needs a tip or two.

Thanks for reminding me - I've also used the wonderful standalone version in the past, but duly downloaded and installed the VST version (just had a look, and the file is dated March 2019), then promptly forgot about it.

Must have a go with it!

For anyone who doesn't know, the parent of this was designed from the ground up by the same person as Yoshimi's parent :bouncy::thumbup:

And that's not just clickbait - the mankini is a genuine addition to this video ;)

Thanks for posting it ManFromGlass, as this really is a great introduction to the PaulXstretch plug-in version, and armed with all this extra info I will now of course be featuring this effect myself within a future project in the near future 8-)

"The Best" piece of gear is subjective.

I’d thank that coffee guy who figured the plug out and then put it together in an understandable way. I’ve always admired you synth nerds who can follow a rats nest of patchcords or sliders to a great sounding end. This plug I can now follow with happy results.
I was curious though, what his voice would sound like if he used a mic with some serious proximity effect!

I have recently taken over maintenance of Xenakios’ PaulXStretch, made some updates and released it for modern platforms… it was too great of a thing to get left behind.

Check it out at:

Very pleased to see this still being maintained, and especially happy to see it's most emphatically open source and Paul is fully acknowledged.

Hi essej, and welcome to the SOS Forums! 8-)

And I'm sure you've just made a lot of SOS forum user happy by your taking over coding maintenance of the famous Paulstretch. Thank you!

N.B. I can confirm your download compatibility statement 'Windows 8 (7 in progress) and above' - I just installed both standalone and vst3 versions on my Windows 7 PC and neither worked yet, so I've returned to my previous standalone and vst2 versions of Paulstretch3 ;)

Will update as soon as W7 is declared compatible.

(OK, I fixed the windows crashing issues on some older systems!)

Grab the latest 1.5.2 for all platforms at https://sonosaurus.com/paulxstretch

- Increased maximum number of channels to 32
- Optimized FFTW build to use available hardware
- Fixed crash issue some people were seeing on older windows systems
- Added option (now default) to end recording automatically when chosen buffer size is reached
- More extremely small window size tweaks

Excellent - thanks essej!

I've just installed both the standalone and VST3 versions on my Windows 7 PC, and can confirm that they now launch and run perfectly

Now to investigate all your improvements 8-)

I just had a quick play with it in VST form on my DAW and it's brilliant. To date I've only used the standalone version but although I've definitely got a few things to figure out with the controls I'm loving it.

Essej, this is fantastic work and I've never been happier to contribute something towards a free software project for the benefit of using it
