Anytime I setup adrum rack with something like a closed hat to trigger my prophet 6 seq. I can never play that drum from a midi keyboard anywhere near good timing.. it always sounds incredibly wonky, funnily when I use same midi keyboard to actually record drums its way more managable always a bit of but managable..
I have the driver error compensation setup in ableton when I use direct monitoring of synth, sometimes Ill use external instrument within ableton. I know to record the midi keyboard, I must have have the drum rack channel set to automonitor mode when armed to record some midi.
Its painful anytime I try trigger the sequencer on prophet...
By the way for the times Ive played a rhythm I havnt quantized the midi notes as this always sounds weird to me, I think the groove of triggering the seq has better swing, but the timing never "fits"
what ways can I adress this?
Prophet 6 seq. using trigger from ableton always wonky timing
Re: Prophet 6 seq. using trigger from ableton always wonky timing
Ableton can be a bit of a pain with this sort of thing. It has some mad algorithms when it comes to monitoring.
One thing you could try is to use two tracks, one that you use to record the midi with monitoring set off and one that you use to monitor the audio.
This disables the mad algorithm on the non monitored track and might help you out.

Re: Prophet 6 seq. using trigger from ableton always wonky timing
thanks for response, im bad for not getting back fast, thing with your suggestion though is to record input from my midi keyboard for a drum to trigger the prophet monitor has to be on auto otherwise AFAIK it wont receive midi for my usb keyboard... but I always set monitor to off for recording midi from the prophet and it works so maybe I have to look at this again, as im thinking about it now...
I thinkI fixed the issue I was having though on prophet 6 in globals row 2 button 9 switch to on keeps the arp sync in time with a beat properly, so I turned this off and tried and seq seems more to my timing than random timing triggered from my drum playing
