Hello :)
i was reading the post on the reverb rabbit hole and saw @theelf
responded which reminded me of something i have been meaning to ask the resident wizard
i could have sent a PM but then any discourse might be useful to someone else so i will ask here

previously @theelf responded very helpfully to a post how to make jm jarre type filtersweeps on the Korg R3 - i am pretty new to real synthesis but have played keyboards and other instruments in bands etc for years

my question today is is it possible to recreate this recreation of a particular bass sound on the R3 (i believe the key attack is modding the freq cutoff)
as this guy os doing on a dave smith pro 2

Thanks!

It's not only possible, it's simple.

All of the controls he's tweaking are there in the R3. It's not the attack that's modulating the filter cut-off - it's the entire filter envelope. You get that 'snap' with the attack on minimum and the decay set fairly short - and sustain/release on minimum. You will need a bit of release on the amp envelope, but maybe a smidge on the filter envelope too.

All you need to do is get in there and try it out. From an initialised patch this would take around 2 minutes to get somewhere close.

Amazing - hope to get some free time tomorrow to give it a go :)
Would you always recommend the PC software over doing it in the box itself?
cheers

"The Best" piece of gear is subjective.

With the R3, yes, I'd prefer an editor application. Editing on the synth itself is not a joyous experience.
