That’s my point, it’s a presentation, not a prize

I always loved these but unfortunately I’ll be way most of that period.

Whenever we have done these before I always took it as a bit of fun to really try and push my knowledge, see what could be done rather than produce soothing stunning. And whilst I marvelled at what some of you guys can do, I always smiled most at the absurd tracks….

I think you may be underestimating the size of Synthfest and over-estimating our importance in it! :D

I have an idea too.
It's a ridiculous idea, but I'm going to give it a go.

I’ve missed the last couple. I may miss this one too. I’m a long way from home on a work project. But I do have a laptop, an audio interface, a city with pawn shops and an hour or two.

Might have a go at this using one of the Arturia soft synths. Need to have a listen to some previous entries first though, to get an idea of what you guys are up to.

They did but the forum, while valued, is a mere fragment of the Sound On Sound universe ;-)

Absolutely! My track is one I'd probably not find a use for in any other context. It's 'out there', great fun and it turns out one of my synths is perfect for it :D

I was thinking of having go at a version of 4’ 33”, but I don’t have a suitable synth.

Having a bit of a struggle at the moment. I had one of two hardware synths in mind, but one is proving to be a pig to set up voices, and the other is showing it's age sound quality wise.
Definitely not going to try the SY35 again - the problems last time I'll regard as a warning :?

Vexingly it would appear that the VCA on my synth is faulty and, in this case, renders the whole thing unusable for this task.

As I'm not doing it now, you could have a go at 4'33" yourself.

I was thinking of doing it myself, but with the added difficulty of playing it backwards. However, my post-Covid breathing is too noisy.

I’ll get back to my lurking now….

I was going to ask about the rules, but then found the sticky thread. :headbang:
I have far too many soft-synths, but I have tried to produce at least a complete piece or two with each one just to find out what I like about them, if anything.
I could enter one of those tracks, but since I've just ordered my first new hardware synth in about twenty years, that should probably be my choice! :D

Its a bit early season for me but if I can find the time Ill put an entry in.

Can we have at least a few days after publication to listen to the tracks before the clue phase begins ? It all seemed over so quick last time.

Well, I was going to try the QS300, but it's not just the display backlight that's dud. I can't get anything out of the bottom octave and a half keys :(
This is weird. It will send MIDI out in that range from the keyboard, and will receive MIDI to it's internal banks. It could be some obscure setting, although I've never tried to do this. Also there is no official factory reset mentioned anywhere in the manual, and the two suggestions I've seen on the 'net seem to set a lot of stuff but make no difference to this.

Frankly I've run out of patience with it, so if anyone wants it let me know, you can have it for free.
