Are These Mics Genuine?

Post by ITHertz »

Hi All,

I was selling some stuff on ebay recently and some SM7B mics that were about 50% of the retail price came up in my feed:

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/37402806099 ... %7Ciid%3A1

Normal retail prices seem to be about double this which makes me very suspicious.

Do people think these are genuine or is it a scam?

Is this another version of the fake SSD ebay scam?

Cheers!

Fake IMO. The wording in the description plus links in the shipping description to non-related products seems to indicate a Chinese outlet behind it all to me.

Avoid.

I noticed some similar listings for U87s at about £600. The listings disappeared after a few days (although they still show up in a search for sold items, but when you click through the listing isn’t found). So yes, avoid.

Hi,
If you look at the images closely you will notice that some are mirror image,
the box contents image shows a leaflet mirrored and another out of focus, the features image has spaces missing between several words.

The main description says ‘Fit Shure SM7B’. That ‘Fit’ at the front is probably a way to say legally that it’s not a Shure mic, but one from ‘Fit Shure’.

And all the seller’s other items are sheets of cartoon dog stickers.

*Edit: Switching to my PC I can see more items, but various general electronic and car parts, many of which state they are in the USA (not Australia).

Definitely weird, definitely avoid!

“ And all the seller’s other items are sheets of cartoon dog stickers”

Perhaps they could offer a free pack of stickers with every Mic purchased.

Fake.
Even under the "Item specifics" the brand is "Unbranded".
Sadly 4 people have bought one.

I unwittingly bought a fake Beta SM58 from Ebay - when I got it I realised, raised a PayPal dispute due to the counterfeit product and got a refund. I did not return the mic and was not requested to do so, I ended up with an 'ok' mic for free.

I know PayPal is often maligned, but it's really helpful in these kind of situations.

One of the many 'how to spot a fake SM7B' videos on YouTube (but with an Australian presenter so I thought it the most appropriate).

(Other variations of fake SM7Bs are undoubtedly also available).

Of course the eBay pictures show Shure photos, but you'd probably receive something that looks like an SM7B, but won't be.
