SubZero SZ-AI2 Audio Interface problem
SubZero SZ-AI2 Audio Interface problem
I have a problem with my Audio Interface. It's my first time trying to record at home. I am making a podcast and need to microphones. I have plugged in both mics and start recording, but the sound on mic2 is very very low and I have no idea what I am doing wrong. I have tried gain it up higher than mic1, but it is still very much lower.. In our headphones it sound balanced, but when I use the output from my mac it is not good, and also when the file is exported... Anyone know what I can do to make the level of the vocals more equal?

Hi and welcome.
What mics are you using? Are they both the same? Have you done basic sanity checks checks like swapping the mics around and then the mic leads around?
Are the lNS 1 and INS 2 buttons both in the same position (it's not clear from the manual but I'd assume 'in' selects line or 'instrument' operation). Manual here: https://d1aeri3ty3izns.cloudfront.net/m ... 794760.pdf
Otherwise it's down to how you are recording into the Mac, and the software you are using. Each mic will come in on a different channel. if you are only listening to one, you may only be hearing crosstalk between channels.
So what software are you using to record from the interface?

Reliably fallible.

Welcome!
Good set of questions from Wonks...
... and another one... what are the connectors on the end of the mic leads?

… and are the gain knobs set the same for each channel? Even if your mikes are different, the relative volumes should swap over if you swap the mike cables over.
The markings on the gain knobs don’t look very clear on the G4M website. Just wondering if your quiet mike problem is just the gain not turned up.

On my Zoom interface I've resorted to marking the knobs with a chinagraph pencil because the tiny numbers on them are invisible unless you are working in good light close up. I wish everything used knobs that are as clear as those on my Audient preamp - you can see where those are set from the other side of the room.
