Jamuary 2023 jam journal
Re: Jamuary 2023 jam journal
Tore down the setup today and redid it for improved workflow, but it took AGES and now I'm burnt out lol.
I replaced the JV-1010 and SR16 with the JV-1080, and figured out a way to mult the mono fx send from my mixer two 3 separate fx units so I can mix them in any way I like (used a 1:4 headphone amplifier to do this)
Whew!

Definitely an '80s vibe going on there

I'm heading out for the evening to see a friend play a gig and am out tomorrow night also but I'll try and get that Van Halen jam in shape and uploaded over the weekend. Need more hours in the day

Today's jam was a lot of fun after the re-org.

This is good, love the brutal bass sound, and those chords too, have a fascinating sci-fi feel about them, very synthetic, great.
Just a feeling that it could have gone somewhere else, more development needed.

Thx!
When Jamuary is over I will revisit some of these ideas.

Jam 21 ... down to the last week!

Martin, this was one of your phase requests. Left sequence is 24 notes, right sequence is 23 notes.

And it worked well in my opinion - thanks for trying it!

Another suggestion for future tryout - try doing the same with two drum patterns, where the polyrhythms should be even more obvious and intriguing (I'm going to have a go at this myself in due course).

It sounded better than I thought it would, probably because it's very consonant, harmonically speaking.
It's MUCH easier to do this with modular bc I can set individual clocks for each track....
But I think an interesting experiment would be to have two percussion loops using Euclidean Circles, and then rotate the pulse by one degree every couple of cylces.

I'm having an absolute BLAST with this current setup of: KeyStep Pro, JV1080, TX7, Volca FM. More jams with this setup coming up!
And I have my first major complaint of the KSP: the SEQ and ARP buttons are too close together. It's too easy to accidentally press ARP when you're switching patterns and get no sound when playing live. They really should not be directly next to each other, imo.

I’ve got a KS37, I find it overall very confusing, it’s not intuitive in any way, the only good thing about it is the keyboard feel.

Sounds like a TV soundtrack to me, during a late-night car drive along a coast somewhere.

In my mind's eye I see a tall cabinet containing a large CRT, big colourful sprites smoothly scaling from small to large, a playfield with stripes to indicate the velocity at which you, the player, are heading into it.
... and can I mentally manifest the slight smell of a hot pair of Motorola 68000s and/or a Z80 or two? Why yes... yes, I believe I can!
