Re: Thinking about a new acoustic...
The best guitar for an absolute beginner is a used guitar. Find a friend who plays, and ask him (or her) to accompany you to two or three guitar shops that have a good selection of used instruments. Set your price range, and try them out. Use your own ears to judge the sound, and try playing a few notes yourself, but rely on your friend to assess the instruments for overall quality and playability. Pick the one that you like best in your price range. For the same price as a new beginner's instrument, you'll end up with something that sounds and plays better. It won't be as shiny, but it will have built-in character.

Not for me. I want to be able to adjust a truss rod to give me the relief I want, not what someone else wants. Not complaining about the CF stiffening, but please give me some adjustment.
Reliably fallible.
Re: Thinking about a new acoustic...
I wondered about that. The neck just doesn't move apparently.

Re: Thinking about a new acoustic...
My Emerald carbon fibre guitar has a truss rod. They didn't fit them to their early guitars but most of the current range have a dual action truss rod. This is what they have to say :-
The carbon fibre neck design makes a very strong and stable neck and many feel this means a truss rod is not required. It is true that structurally there is no need for a truss rod but it is our opinion that its addition gives an extra degree of adjustability allowing for fine adjustments to neck relief which helps get to your perfect setup and helps set the neck relief to match the optimal for various string gauges.

People often mistake me for a grown-up because of my age.
