Another pedal. It’s SOS’s fault
Yes - The Meris LVX is now on the list. The review in SOS pushed me over the edge even though I felt the review didn’t quite do the pedal enough justice.
The neighbour’s arrived 2 days ago.
We got lost in it and lost track of time.
It’s been awhile since I’ve been seriously blown away by a pedal or synth. The joy of discovery + inspiration.

SOS can be dangerous to your wallet, and you aren't helping here
Glad you're inspired.

"The Best" piece of gear is subjective.

For that kind of money I would demand a locking mechanism on the PSU socket.

I've bought several synths for far less than that in total
Let's hope it's REALLY good
Yes several.
Pedals are becoming as expensive as good rack units.
I’ve put up a firewall as far as buying pedals is concerned, I can think of loads I’d like, but they’d all be ones I definitely don’t need.

I've never liked a solo violin, you need at least five for a proper fire.
Re: Another pedal. It’s SOS’s fault
A musician walks on stage with guitar, plugs it in and plays one note. A huge sound echoes around the venue. The musician puts down the guitar. The next 90 minutes consists of the "player" manipulating a selection of effects pedals laid out in front of him.
Has anyone been to that gig yet?

That already sounds more interesting than watching someone hunched over their laptop onstage!
Actually back in the day when there weren’t samplers and loopers etc I attended a performance of Endless Guitar by Michael Brook. He played more than one note but he created some wonderful ambiences/pieces.
And then
Back on the Atari didn’t some genius create the Popcorn song from just one note in Notator in the environment?

I always wanted to go and see the 4 german blokes hunched over their laptops onstage but never quite managed it.

Wasn't that Radiohead's middle phase?

I dig this album Michael Brook did with Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan
https://m.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLy ... -Syf7-RJHt
Although I only understand a handful of words being sung I still bought the cd in the early noughties listened to it a few times then.

I'll just leave this link here . . .
Me buying another reverb pedal, or delay, is like Sainsbury’s buying one more trolley.
Michael Brook? What? a seminal influence "Hybrid" changed my life, literally.

To be fair, when it arrives it'll be my first ambient reverb pedal
Also to be fair, from the sounds I've heard, it's a very nice ambient reverb pedal.
Personally, it has prompted me to plug in the Night Sky instead of the credit card, which has been very rewarding this morning.

That's a good approach. When the plastic gets restless, rediscover some gear (or software) you've not used in a while. I think we've all got something tucked away!

Re: Another pedal. It’s SOS’s fault
That's so true. I realised last year that I already have more gear and possibilities than I can explore in the time I have on this earth, even if I live a long time more.
Really is time for me to get my backside in gear and produce some music . . .
On a side note I think the Night Sky is a very deep and rewarding pedal. Definitely going to try it with the modular synth I think it could do some amazing things there.

Re: Another pedal. It’s SOS’s fault
I’ve tried a few reverb pedals that are aimed at the "wall of reverb" market, but the one that may as well just be my only pedal, I don’t use anything else now, is the UAD Golden, it cuts to the chase, when I’ve got a good synth sound, and I bring up the reverb, the smile comes, and it takes off, it just does it every time, others, no, it’s "alright" but they haven’t got that Blade Runner approach depth vibe and space, that just adds everything to your sound.
I only use my BigSky for odd effects these days, not as a reverb since I got the UAD, it’s been sitting there for months, I never got into straight away when I bought it, but I’ve been using it exclusively lately, and it’s just the best I’ve got.
Plus, mega simple to use, and just one storable preset, what more do I need?
This is interesting, when she says "it doesn’t get as crazy ambient or as wet as"
Nothing could be further from the truth, I tell you, it does, it’s way more than just a high quality "studio" reverb.

Now I need to check out another reverb . . .
Do you particularly prefer one of the reverb modes over another? Spring, plate or studio?

It's permanently set on Hall 224, and my preset is a customisation of that, I used to have an original 224, and this gives me the essence of that sound, so it’s not bad.
224 controls, high/low decay, and the Mod control gives you more or less of that chorusy 224 character.
It’s big, and it’s very dense, it wraps itself around a sound, the depth is crazy.
It seems expensive, but it’s not, when you think about what you’re getting, a reverb of this quality just a few years ago would cost thousands.
Re: Another pedal. It’s SOS’s fault
Reliably fallible.
Re: Another pedal. It’s SOS’s fault
SOS did me in on the Lemondrop
been having a great time with it

Re: Another pedal. It’s SOS’s fault
These reverb pedals are all pretty similar, it’s just a matter of slight tonal differences, and a few weird variations.
I’ve had Immerse, BigSky, Black Hole, and now Golden, if you said to me I had to have any "one" of them, and I couldn’t choose, I’d be happy to use any of them, it’s not that much of a big deal, between them.
I’ve still got my Zoom MS70, I bought that with high hopes, I’ve tried, and tried, it’s an evil little thing, it sounds great, but the reason it’s been in a carrier bag under a table for last year is that unless you’ve got eyes like a cat, and tiny fingers, the operating system is confusing and fiddly, it’s major menu diving on a pedal, those two things don’t go together.
"STOP PRESS"
Forget everything I’ve said here, I’ve just ordered a Vongon Ultrasheer.
Reverb plus random vibrato, it was made, for me.
