So I'm not sure if this is the right forum or not.
I have a Blue Yeti microphone that I use during gaming. I was hoping to stream with it but my house situation seems to cause some background noise. I am using OBS Studio to stream but I can't get the filters Noise Gate, Noise Suppression, etc. to block out the noise in the room without blocking out my voice.
This may not be fixable with the audio equipment but just thought I'd ask.
So my wife sits in the same room as I do watching the television. The sound is rather loud on the TV and I can't seem to filter it out with any filters so far.
Is this just a situation where I need to somehow get the TV or my desk to another area? The TV is like 15' away from me but we don't have much in the room to catch the sound like carpet or something.
Any options?
Re: Any options?
Yep, short answer is that this is room problem not a mic/filter/gate problem.
Our ears are really good at filtering out background noise to concentrate on speech - a microphone doesn't do that, it captures everything.
Playing around with gate thresholds and release times may give you some small benefit, but you'll still be fighting with the TV every time you speak.

Re: Any options?
The mic has a choice of four pickup pattern. Do you know which one of them you are using?
Cardioid is the most directional pattern, and should reject most of the sound coming from behind it. So if you can rotate your seating position so the back of the mic is facing the TV, you'll minimise the direct sound that's picked up.
You'll still get reflected sound being picked up, but it might now be at a level where there's enough differential between background noise and your voice that a noise gate might work.
But if you don't want to have any background noise, then moving to a different room is the only real answer.

Reliably fallible.

"The Best" piece of gear is subjective.

It would be worth trying a headset mic instead of the Yeti. When you need to separate direct and ambient sounds, mic proximity to the wanted source makes a very big difference. Some headset mics are noise cancelling too.

Re: Any options?
You can improve things by getting a mic closer to your mouth, maybe (as suggested) a headset mic. But the real answer - sorry if it's too obvious - is to NOT be in the same room as a loud TV.

You don't have to write songs. The world doesn't want you to write songs. It would probably prefer it if you didn't. So write songs if you want to. Otherwise, please don't bore us with beefing about it. Go fishing instead.
