Hi,
I'm a new Pro Tools user having shuffled across from Logic - firstly is this the right place on the forum for PT questions? Apologies if not.
I am a little confused as to the iLok / cloud-based licensing; it all works fine currently but am I relying on my iLok or the internet to run PT? Can I work on a train for example where I'd have neither my iLok usb stick nor the internet? Or is it licensed to my Mac via iLok so I don't need either?
Any advice much appreciated,
Alex

Re: Pro Tools - working offline
If you're using a physical iLok dongle, then you don't need to be connected to the internet. If licencing via iLok Cloud, then you'll need a consistent internet connection for Pro Tools to run.
I've not used the cloud-based option myself, but I believe PT will simply make you save and quit should the internet disappear. It's one of the reasons I've always stuck with the physical key, although I seem to be one of the only users around who wasn't bitten by an iLok as a child. My time will come, I'm sure.

Thanks Luke - how do I tell if I'm using the cloud or dongle? Other than pulling out the dongle or disconnecting from wifi!
Funny - I've never lost a limb to iLok but I've always been suspicious like it was a momma bear.

It's been a while since I looked, but you should be able to see where your licences are stored by opening the iLok Licence Manager software. The tab on the left will show you the various locations (computer, dongle, cloud etc) and how many licences are stored on each, you can see what's in each one by clicking them.

Re: Pro Tools - working offline
Logic questions are OKish in the Mac forum but in general questions about working with a DAW are not platform specific. Lessons learned in solving problems on one DAW can be helpful to users of other DAWs.
So I've moved the topic to the Recording forum.

Re: Pro Tools - working offline
Unfortunately, no.
With Pro Tools, the iLok Cloud session needs to be initiated from the License Manager. If the internet drops, you'll be required to save and close PT.
If you have a physical iLok you'll need that connected, and then the iLok Cloud session is not required. There is no option for PT to be licensed to a computer, nor is it likely there ever will be...IMO.
Re: Pro Tools - working offline
I'll second what was said. Protools license will not allow you to move the license from the cloud account to a specific computer or USB stick. Many other software will let you store licenses on a computer, but not Protools. Get an iLock to work offline.
