Yamaha AN1x and AN200 compatibility?
Yamaha AN1x and AN200 compatibility?
My question is are the sounds compatible? Can I load sounds that I've programmed on my AN1x sounds into the AN200?

Re: Yamaha AN1x and AN200 compatibility?
It looks like the answer is yes. But the .an1 files from the AN1x have to be converted to .an2 files for the AN200 (and vice versa) - it can be done with the AN1x Editor software from Yamaha, but it's for Windows 95/NT and Mac OS 7.5. People have gotten it to run on newer computers if you look online.

I'm going from memory, so was hoping somebody else would jump in. RockyDennis has it right.
If you look at the SOS AN200 review here,
https://www.soundonsound.com/reviews/toy-story
it says, about the Editor Software: "The librarian utility is pretty essential for backing up and naming Patterns. It also doubles as a conversion bridge for loading AN1x Patterns/Voices."
Fairly sure you should be able to get it running on Windows 10.
Another option is AN Factory which runs on platform-independent JAVA.
It's a librarian, not an editor.
Manual here
https://www.xfactory-librarians.co.uk/D ... actory.pdf
P13 of the manual (MIDI Menu):
"You can select whether or not an.factory sends "native" AN1x messages to a PLG150-AN or AN200 device (the device will perform the parameter conversions) or if an.factory converts the data before sending it."
Software available for purchase on that domain (£20).
I'm pretty certain you cannot just squirt Sysex from one device to the other, because whilst related, they don't have exactly the same architecture, probably not the same ID etc.

If you do go with Yamaha's AN1x Editor, it's available here -
For Windows 95/NT
https://uk.yamaha.com/en/support/updates/52100_en.html
For Mac OS 7.5
https://uk.yamaha.com/en/support/updates/52099_en.html
Doubtful that the Mac one will run on OS X, but people have gotten the Windows one to run on Macs using Winebottler - not sure about Fusion, Parallels, Boot Camp, etc., but imagine they'd work too.
