Anyone still using aksys???
Anyone still using aksys???
I have an old S5000 which woprked well with aksys back in the day. I'm thinking of buying a cheap PC to reboot this set up. Anuone else doing the ol' school???
Re: Anyone still using aksys???
I have rediscovered it and have been using it with a 20 year old laptop with Xp. The drivers were a bit difficult to find (i have a folder with the software and xp drivers if you need a copy).
I also purchased a copy of Extreme Sample Converter to read and convert a load of old Akai S format cds. Worked like a charm. £43 well spent.
There is definitely a charm to using this old gear. I feel you're definitely creating something with an old sampler than say Kontakt which is more like playing.

Re: Anyone still using aksys???
It is with regret.............that I have to admit I sold all my Akai stuff off, the prize of my collection was the wonderful Akai Z8, all modded up, it was a joy to use.
But I had to go to 64bit OS as my software Cubase demanded it, well it did if I needed more that the 4gig ram limit of 32bit.
I tried all manner of work-arounds but in the end the juice wasn't worth the squeeze, loading up all sorts of sample then AK.SYS just dumping on me part way through a session.
There was talk of coders getting hold of the code and recoding it to work in 64bit, but Akai never released the code

I was until recently - last year in fact. Had a MPC4000 and kept an old G4 Powerbook around to run Aksys - worked flawlessly I have to say and so easy to drag and drop samples etc. That said, don’t miss it!
