Waves drops other shoe?

Post by resistorman »

So Waves had this waiting in the wings when they announced subscription only? Would have been pretty nice for them if it had worked out. A very good idea in any case.

"The Best" piece of gear is subjective.

But Mac and Waves plugins only, and no-one seems to want to buy Waves plugs any more (at least until people forget the latest incident).

Wow...looks like LiveProfessor really got them spooked then. Seeing as LiveProfessor does all of that and you can use any plugin with it, I'll continue using that.

I don't think they are the same product. SuperRack Performer interfaces directly with the mixer; LiveProfessor does not I believe. It's an evolution of the SoundGrid idea allowing the use of a computer (Mac or Windows) for the DSP.

I see it now mentions it runs on PC. I’m convinced it just said Mac when I first read it.

I’m wondering who it’s for.

I get soundgrid offloading processing on a big console to a pc. And I know big shows use this a lot.

But at the shallow end of the pool, I can’t see the need for any more than a bit of channel EQ maybe a channel compressor, and a couple of bus fx.

Pub and small club PAs are usually terrible, or it’s bring your own.

By the time you’re in a situation where the sound needs proper sculpting you’re back into soundgrid territory anyway.

SuperRack Performer uses the USB connection on lower end digital mixers as the interface according the waves site. It's the soundgrid one that interfaces with soundgrid cards.

So performer is exactly like LiveProfessor, as that's the way I use LiveProfessor.
