Really Weird Logic Bug? - No it's Operator Error

Post by Bob Bickerton »

This has done my head in.

I'll explain the perceived bug and explain why I'm an idiot! Might be a useful reference.

I'm working on a project which is mostly MIDI but wanted to run a sample audio track to follow, which I did. Having built up the MIDI arrangement, I'm now ready to rerecord the original audio track.

All audio is deleted from the audio files folder in the project folder and there are no audio tracks visible in the Main Window but I can still hear my original sample audio track!

Took awhile until I realised I'd tuned the original track with Melodyne and the plug-in was still active in the mixer window, so Melodyne was playing it back!

Just saying in case anyone else strikes this........ :headbang:

Yeah, this usually bites most people at least once when they use Melodyne!

Once the audio has been captured into Melodyne, what you do to the audio on the track no longer matters, as it's being buffered and played back by the plugin.

That's annoying. I thought that was exactly the kind of thing ARA is supposed to avoid? In Reaper changes on the track are also changed in Melodyne. It's almost 100% seamless, really great.

Yes, if you’re using ARA. Unfortunately, ARA is not available running on Apple silicon Macs natively, for technical reasons due to plugins running outside the DAW’s process space, so using Melodyne the traditional way, or restarting the DAW under Rosetta to use ARA are the main options here.

(Not sure if Bob is on an Apple silicon Mac tho…)

To add to the operator error

Opened a Logic project, it's only showing a plugin, not showing project at all.
Solution : pressing on mac keyboard Command then 1.
If wind keyboard pressing Ctrl then 1.

Without looking pressed two keys on the keyboard whole project went mute. Unmuting doesn't work. Soloing doesn't work.
Solution : pressing on mac keyboard Command holding it down, then pressing S.
If wind keyboard pressing Ctrl holding it down, then pressing S.

Hey presto !
