I simply want one nice mic preamp with phantom power and conversion to USB.
I don't need all the extra bells and whistles of an interface.
I have my own DAC/amp combo that I'm happy with.
Does anything exist and one can recommend me?
Tbh if there's some cool circuit design where i could build it myself, that would be super fun too!
Thanks!
Any single xlr input to USB?

The Shure X2U is probably the simplest competent one I’ve come across: https://www.shure.com/en-US/products/ac ... ariant=X2U

You're describing an audio interface (a mic pre with A/D conversion and USB interface); that's what you need.

What's your budget? What's does "nice" mean to you?
Re: Any single xlr input to USB?
Thanks, also saw the irig pre HD.
I have a Focusrite Scarlet Solo 3rd Gen, but here's what I hate about it.
- XLR input is on the front
- it has two inputs that are routed to the same ADC, and I think this is why in my system, a single channel at full signal is only -0.5
- it has stereo output and DAC which I don't need
- form factor is far too big for all i use it for.
My budget is up to €200, but regading sound quality ill be fine with something similar to Scarlett.
If i can solve the other issues, i will be a happy boy!

Re: Any single xlr input to USB?
What are you using it for, and are you on Windows or Mac?
The ADC arrangement is certainly not why your input channel is only at -0.5.
What -0.5? is this a signal level somewhere, and if so, what particular meter is showing this? If it's -0.5dBFS, then you don't want anything hotter, and it should really be significantly less.
Where is the signal coming from you want to record? How are you connecting it to the Scarlet i.e. what type of cable e.g. TRS to TRS, RCA to TS?

Reliably fallible.

I have two iRig devices. I think the preamps work really well. I have had great results with them, and can use MIDI and connect to an iPad when needed. Batteries don't last that long, but I power the device with a pack.

Hey, thanks for your input. In the end I was able to pickup a focusrite iTrack One Pre for 17 euros, which (appears) identical in sound quality and noise floor to Scarlet Solo 3rd Gen, but gives me the smaller form factor I desire!
