Yes, they've been around for as long as I can remember. The difference between them and others that have fallen by the wayside is that they've always been strong on mail order and then later, online ordering. They've also gone for the industrial and educational markets as well as the home constructor.
Interface failed, need a new one, any recommendations?

Are you thinking of the antiques stores building in Church street market. It's still there went in once in the 2years I lived near Abbey Road Studios.
There's something as 30antiques stores inside.
The rest of Church Street is as I said salt of the earth middle working class middle eastern. They are poor economically .Really hospitable to me and as I said my preference compared to abbey road.
Yes, Church Street Antiques Market, interestingly, back in the 80’s, there was a great analogue tape shop there, just down from the market, you could get anything from cassettes to reels of tape.

Aaaah this is nice to know. I shall be glad to spend £18 or so there.
Also that they moved with the times.
As commercial recording studios have had to.

Ha! Yes, the owner is a "character" shall we say!
It’s one of those places that still reminds me of the shops I used to go in as a kid, where you could not only "get what you want" but also get useful knowledge too from staff members, and you could buy anything from one resistor, to thousands.
There was a similar shop where I grew up, it was called Pats Tool Shop, it had a huge table in the middle of it, pilled up with used GPO tools, those lovely yellow screwdrivers “81’s" and Lindstrom cutters etc, Avo Meters, magic.
Those places don’t exist anymore.

"Edit: Brother AD-E001UK would probably be ok 12V 2A centre negative."
Oh! I DO beg all yous pardons! My PT1080 IS centre negative. I had never looked before, just slammed in a rake of triple As when needed.
I still think the practice is totally stupid and makes no sense to peeps like me brought up on +ve valve supply rails!
A +ve outer could also be quite dangerous in a car derived supply?
Just a slight diversion? Does anyone know why early cars were positive earth?
Dave.

Re: Interface failed, need a new one, any recommendations?
‘Early’ cars weren’t. Generally a post-WW2 change which lasted longer in some countries than others.
It seems to come down to either perceived or real benefits with the materials, tech and scientific understanding of the time.
Spark plugs and distributors were supposed to last longer (spark direction changed and most erosion then happened on the larger surfaces) and battery sulphination was reduced, as was battery discharge in high humidity.
The change from dynamos to alternators is the reason most given for the change back to negative grounds, presumably because early NPN transistors used in them were more reliable than PNP ones at the time.
Reliably fallible.

I do love the way some threads (usually mine) beautifully morph into new areas of interest, I’m witnessing Seren Dipity at her most inspiring.
Positive Earth? That’s a bit like saying negative things about anything positive, of course, as you all know, that’s a subject in which I'm a world renowned expert, saying positive things about anything negative is an area I’m working on, however, I’m not finding it easy, but I am being helped a lot by Percy Veering, whom without I’d be even more severely handicapped than I am already.
I’m just off up the road now, to Cricklewood Electronics, I’ll give them your regards.

Positive Earth?
Many of the early, new fangled, ' transistor communication receivers', particularly of the 'home-brew' variety, (plus probably the early Eddystone EC10/EB35), also had positive earths/chassis. To go with their state of the art germanium transistors.....

Ah yes, now that is one reason put forward for the original use of centre neg plugs for guitar pedals. I don't give that much credence myself since pedals are 'floating' and it does not matter which way the lektrik goes in!
I do recall some American Germanium radio schematics kept +v at the top and turned all the circuitry upside down! Bastard hard to read!
Dave.
