Drums booming

I have a roland vad 306 kit with td17 module. Any tips for a crisp sound noticed my tom toms are booming. Tried muffling.

Are you listening over headphones, or speakers in a room?

If they’re too boomy over decent headphones then the problem might be with the sound itself (though the headphones themselves could eb boomy) a all you can do really is try the different toms availaible with your kit, or play around with the damping settings, EQ etc. as you mentioned.

If they’re boomy on speakers in a room, it could well be that it’s a room acoustics/speakers problem.

We probably do need more info. Is this live on stage, in your own room?

The VAD is described as a hybrid kit, but I’ve never seen one in the wild. How much of the sound comes from the drums vs the module? And what is the module playing through?

I think they’re all electronic, but made to look more like acoustic drums.

This video has the module and acoustic only sounds.

The kick, snare and toms are shallow drum shells with mesh heads, so there is a certain level of acoustic noise, but they do have mesh heads. The drum heads are similar sizes to acoustic kit sizes and the overall package gives a more acoustic feel to playing them compared to earlier electronic drum kits. But the drums are purely triggers for the sounds in the drum brain.
