I am looking for a monitor controller for my basement rehearsal/recording studio. 3 outputs and a digital input would be nice but not essential, so I am looking at the Audient Nero and Drawmer CMC2. I noticed a few online user reviews of the Audient Nero mentioned loud popping and even headphone or monitor damage when switching inputs or on power-up.
Have any Audient Nero users here had any experience like that?
Can you report quiet switching between sources (or other switching), and on power-up? I have read both SOS reviews and Hugh didn't note any problem like that, maybe those were defective units?

Re: Audient Nero switching noise
Most user reviews I’ve seem are very positive. I made a bit of a study of user reviews during lockdown and concluded that some people just expect everything to be totally bombproof and others have no idea what they’re doing. Add on the scope for their incompetence to have already affected much of the kit plugged into something as “central” as the Nero, not to mention dodgy mains and other shortcomings in home studios, it’s almost certain that somebody’s going to be audibly bitten.
That’s not to say there aren’t ways to operate the Nero that make this more likely to happen. I’m pretty sure Hugh runs a tight ship and doesn’t tempt fate like some do often, and most of us do occasionally.
All that said, to no real conclusion, I leave everything I reasonably can plugged in and on standby; I can’t remember the last time anything just failed or even “farted publicly”.
I’m watching this thread (and Bob’s) on the Nero as I think it would fill in the control shortcomings in my hifi system, especially where it overlaps with my too-sporadic recording adventures.

Re: Audient Nero switching noise
I am closing down this thread as Bob Bickerton's thread has addressed this issue and more.
