Software issues... asking for a friend

A couple of days ago I received a PM as follows:

Hi Mike. If you remember, you recommended to me the Levelator plug in. The only problem is that I can't access it on my computer. It says this:

[app name] needs to be updated.
The developer of this app needs to update it to work with this version of macOS. Contact the developer for more information.

I wouldn't know how to proceed. I opened the Levelator again, and it didn't show that sign again, I just don't want to use the software and have problems on my Mac. Pls advise.

Leaving aside the bit about 'recommended'... I just suggested, as I have no direct experience.... I responded to the PM explaining that I know nothing of things Mac and maybe to post the query here...

As yet, it hasn't appeared, so I'm posting myself in the case the person who PM'd is lurking...

Looking at the Levelator site, they state there are problems with Mac OS and it’s not available. Presumably there will be an update soon.
