Forum VERY slow today. Just me?

Post by Kwackman »

Hi,
Since lunch time today the forum has been really slow.
And it doesn't seem the same as the recent issue that gave the "Bad Gateway" message.

Usually I can get to the first page I navigate to, but after that it either takes a very long time, or just doesn't load and gives the following message.

“Safari can’t open the page “https://soundonsound.com/forum/index.php” because the server where this page is located isn’t responding.”

If no-one else is suffering, it's just my computers.
I'm on Macs, using Safari, and I'm with BT.
Similar results using Firefox.
Various other sites seem OK.

Not much help I'm afraid but I've been popping in and out regularly throughout the day and it's been behaving itself fine here (at least at those times).

Yep, consistently slow for me today and regular 'server not responding' events.

It's not your end - it's slow. But just the whirlies - not failures to load.

I keep going into forums and then forgetting why I went in there.

Its been running normally for me today. Could this be another BT backhaul issue?

It has also been fine for me too but a very quick check shows that it is likely to be a BT issue.

It’s unpredictable here, but slow now, bad gateway occasionally, then fine again, for awhile.

Yes BT, or possibly a wider reaching Open Reach issue, having to rip out all the Huawei kit - at an estimated cost of almost £2billion! Who is going to pay for that I wonder?

Hmmmm, I've just noticed my BT broadband bill has shot up :-(

Whilst there may be some BT problems around the UK that is a separate matter.
I can confirm that the site is running slow. We are looking into this and hope to be back up to full speed today.

UPDATE.

The server checks out OK and is running as normal.

Any slow site response and timeout messages are down to your internet connection. I'm aware that BT is having speed issues in various parts of the UK.

Please do provide ongoing feedback if you continue to have problems and let us know your broadband provider.

I'm on BT. I refreshed this thread a few times, and I had anything from normal expected behaviour (maybe 2 second page loads), to taking 20-25 seconds for a page load, to not being able to load the page at all. Posting over the past few days has been exceptionally slow too. Most of the time, I hit "Submit" once and nothing happens - I wait maybe 30 seconds in case it ends up posting, before trying again, and it usually goes through.

It's takes anything from 5 to 40 seconds to get back to editing a post (the last one I tried I killed it after waiting over a waiting to edit the post).

The performance seems variable, but generally, it's slow enough to be a problem. It's only SOS that is affected, (all other web site activity and performance is as normal here), and only for the last day or two.

+1 to all counts (and yes, I'm on BT too, and my 50Mbps connection download speed has remained constant at all times).

Glad it’s not just me then!
BT do seem the problem, as in a coffee shop using 4G I can zoom through the forum on an iPad with no issues.
Hopefully BT will find their dry joint soon :smirk:

We’ve got an average 3/400mb connection here, and it’s fine this morning, all seems OK.

The forum has been slow to unusable for me for several days but does seem fine this morning.

I am on BT FTTC and get a regular ~35Mbs download speed (just checked it twice. Ookla and Google) Firefox on W10.

As others have said, I get no other problems with internet including two other audio forums.

Same here working a treat today. Mind you there could be a downside to that it means I am more tempted to write more nonsense :-(
