Some knobs are tightened onto the shaft with a collet hidden under a plastic cap, you pop the cap off and it exposes a nut you have to loosen to remove the knob. This sort you definitely can't just pull off.

However if the knob looks like a single piece without a removable cap, and it doesn't have a grub screw, then, yes, it's probably the prize-off type.

I can't remove the Output Gain pot off and I'm not keen to force it in case I break it! I notice the cleaner has come through to the inside of the KT so I'm hoping it has gone into the pot ok?

You want it all over the track, and it's hard to do that just through the shaft.

Double check there isn't a grub screw holding it on. If there is, it could only be on the underside of the large rear overhang. Otherwise it must be a push-on type.

The knob should come off with a bit of gentle persuasion. Using a spoon either side of the knob as a lever should do it.

If the gap is too small to get the lip of the spoon under, I often use a flat blade screwdriver. The widest blade you have that will fit in the gap (for leverage). Again, some masking tape will help protect the surface.

Slip the blade of the screwdriver under the knob and turn the blade so it pushes the lip of the knob up slightly. Rotate the knob a bit and repeat. Keep turning the knob back and forth so you gradually lift the knob up. Don't try and do too much at once, maybe 1/2mm at a time.

Thanks Wonks.

I ended up taking it to a really good pro audio tech. He didn’t rate the stock pots and suggested getting them upgraded so I have decided to go with this. Will be picking the KT-2a up after the weekend.

Just got my KT-2a back today and everything is working great. The pots that the tech guy put it are about 3-4 times the size of the pots that were previously installed! Also, the stock pots look like they're sealed so I'm not sure if it would been possible to fully clean them with Servisol?

Anyway, I'm really glad to have the KT-2a up and running again
